Not too impressive-- gusty, with some gusts to tropical-storm force. And keep in mind, we we're in fhe S "eyewall". The most impressive thing with this was the lightning.

So there is no way to get further north? The N eyewall is where its at unfortunately, and it looks like Sota la Marina is going to take a direct hit.

See post earlier Re: road.

Anyhoo, it's a TS. Zzzzzzz. Heading back for a nice evening in Monterrey.

Yea... was just wondering if it was a side road that was taking you closer to the coast or if it was the main road (180). Bummer... it seems like the decoupling last night took its toll :(

This was such a bad forecast. I wonder if it was a typo:

HURRICANE INGRID DISCUSSION NUMBER 15NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL1020131000 PM CDT SUN SEP 15 2013AFTER A SLIGHT JOG TO THE NORTHWEST EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON...INGRIDAPPEARS TO HAVE RETURNED TO ITS PREVIOUS WEST-NORTHWESTWARD COURSEOF 290/05 KT. AS A RESULT...NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE PREVIOUSFORECAST TRACK OR REASONING ARE REQUIRED. HURRICANE INGRID SHOULDGRADUALLY TURN WESTWARD AND THEN WEST-SOUTHWESTWARD TO THE SOUTH OFA BUILDING MID-LEVEL RIDGE ACROSS TEXAS AND NORTHERN MEXICO DURINGTHE NEXT 48 HOURS. THE NHC MODEL GUIDANCE HAS COME INTO BETTERAGREEMENT ON THE TIMING OF LANDFALL...WHICH SHOULD OCCUR IN ABOUT24 HOURS OR SO. THE OFFICIAL FORECAST TRACK IS SIMILAR TO THEPREVIOUS ADVISORY AND THE CONSENSUS MODEL TVCA.

Don't give up so quickly.  This tropical storm probably has a stronger "back side" after landfall.  Beware of possible flooding.  You may wish to reposition on the low rise ("hill") just to your south, especially if the "catastrophic highway failure" of which you speak includes an ongoing bridge washout.

PS: a small town to the south is Lavaderos (population 435). From there, you might travel farther north on a series of gravel roads.  They're probably impassible if too wet, so don't chance it.

Hey, snowman--

I have to be honest-- once it was downgraded, I lost my wood for INGRID.  I may be desperate for a chase this year-- but not so desperate that I was going to shoot video of tropical-storm conditions along the highway.  (I do hurricanes only.  :D) Add to this the curiously flat pressure trace, and I just found very little reason to sit in the car on the side of the highway for another few hours.  Jorge and I decided that, since the event was really under-delivering, the best course of action was to get back up to Monterrey as fast as possible, before the very heavy rainfall would damage the roads too much.

It's 5 pm and we're back in Monterrey.  I'm in a nice, cozy hotel room and just grateful we got out when we did.

Well, you win some & you lose some I suppose.

Yep.  That's what it is.  I took a chance on Ernie last year and it panned out awesomely.  I took a chance on this one and it didn't.

I'm not going to let this one affect my future decisions-- I will continue to be liberal about my chasing decisions and err on the side of going for it, because my fear of missing a good landfall is much greater than my fear of chasing a turkey.

This aside... Jorge is a really good friend of mine, and this was the first time we got to hang in three years.  That alone made it worth the trip to Mexico.

Awww. :P

Bust aside, I'm Perry glad we chased Ingrid...it was a great opportunity to hang out with Josh...All the hours we were driving went as fast as Ingrid prior to landfall ;)

Get a room, you two :P
