got some video, very intense...but felt like a lightning rod out there in the middle of an open field on a 1k hill

I'm with you...the storm I witnessed had the best lightning I can remember. The frequency was nuts and the power was just awesome to think about the electrical discharge. The earth was just getting zapped every second or two.

Meh, go the Great Lakes in a heat wave and witness continuous CG...  while cloud top strobing is kissing the ionosphere with Sprites.

I'm actually surprised they propagated this far E as I thought that capping was modeled to remain through the evening.

So much for listening to Ryan

j/k

Well we were saying if it generates a cold pool like it did..it will help break it. The storms should weaken soon. The srn end by CT already did,

I saw 8/10/00 and 6/1/11 beat it.

Yeah, I didn't get into anything during 6/1 ( like most in eastern areas, we all smoked cirrus).  8/10 is pretty much the worst lightning I've seen around here "firsthand", it was definitely nasty like I've seen in the south and TX.

Anyway like you said, storms are dying quickly.  Lightning is not frequent at all, now.
