Just got into a bad accident past Adams going down the hill on 44. Car would not stop despite breaking. Hit two cars and banged uo my front. Nobody hurt thank God. I love the snow but this sucks. Back home now and resting. Now the pain of insurance, renting, repairs.

Sorry to hear that,  the roads are really quite atrocious so I am not surprised.

On my way to work I hit a tree. Car is pretty much totaled. Was going 10mph and  MY SUV would not stop. Jammed my thumb on the steering wheel but I'm good to go. Roads are the worst I've seen them in a while.

Really impressed by this system.  Didn't expect such intense snowfall rates for this length of time.  But, yeah, I agree, today featured the worst driving conditions I've been in over the past 2-3 years or so.  I imagine the bitter cold temperatures had something to do with it.  Then again, if you don't plow a road, what do you expect?  My side road (which is off of Route 9) was plowed yet Route 9 had about 3" of accumulated snow on it.  Glad to hear both of you guys are ok after your accidents today.

Moving forward, let's hope some of this now deep snowpack can survive the weekend!

Sorry dude. That sucks. Can't believe the lack of plowing everywhere.

Sorry man! Glad you're ok. What a terrible day to drive even though we love the snow. Yes, the plows never came around to many roads....seems they were caught off guard? People will think we're nuts that we still love the snow after an accident.....but I still do!

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful comments and everyone be safe please!

Yeah sorry to hear you guys had accidents- but just remember the most important thing -cars are replaceable, but people aren't.

I've survived two horrific wrecks in my lifetime. And while it definitely costs me more money- I've been driving audi's for the last 10 yrs now - they are super safe and the all wheel drive is superb in the snow. They are second to none in the snow - including some jeeps I have owned.

In any event, I'm glad to hear you guys are ok.

I just went to the corner store and the roads are still pretty bad but the plows are out now.

We finished with about 5 inches for the day. So we have a foot on the ground. Excellent start in December.

Everyone he sure to take care if you have to travel tonight!

roads up here are still terrible... the main road into my neighborhood is still impassable....unfortunately for my better half, can't cancel appraisal appointments...people still need to close on loans.  thank god for the subaru...actually better than the wrangler on days like this.

the A6 got me through a flood.... the A4 handles like a champ in the snow...and the A8L was one of the best cars I drove... but on the hills up here in the snow, the subaru legacy leaves everything else a distant second.  just a matter of opinion...there's some dude that tests all these cars on mountain passes in the winter...videos are on youtube.  glad everyone is ok.

Yup. I have an A5 and it's a tank in the snow...I'll take Audi quattro over just about everything else on the road. Subarus are definitely the best in the snow, but we're talking a totally different animal here. Audis have significantly more weight and  a whole lot more torque to keep under control than anything Subaru puts out.

brother has an audi A4 and Quattro is amazing! then again they should be as they set the standard for AWD systems

Wow guys, that's no good. My best wishes to both of you, glad to hear you're alright. At least you can say you got the full snowstorm experience!

I'm not sure what everybody thought would happen. Most mets have had several inches of snow on the table for the past 36 or 48 hours. I know many schools canceled early this morning, so I'm not sure if that played a role in the lack of clearing. I did ok with my 4x4 Avalanche but there were several times when it could have easily turned ugly.

3.9" total, snowpack around 8.5".

Does anyone else think winter storm warnings should have been issued for today? I almost saw 7 " in Orange County not sure about everyone else.. But travel was dangerous, snows were steady all day then much heavier In the evening till precip stopped

Given the tremendous cold and dangerous travel, yes, winter storm warnings should have been issued.
