Juliancolton
Sleet mixng in now.. Temp 14.4f 7.2" on the ground Wow, didn't expect you to start sleeting this early. Is this one of those situations where heavier rates can refreeze the entire column, or are you pretty much socked in by synoptic mid-level warmth? chietanen
The radar is filling back in nicely over NJ/EPA. Too bad we are changing over, could have approached a foot of snow I imagine had we not.

Juliancolton
Not even sure where the warm layer is.. SPC maps for 04z show both 925mb & 850mb < 0c Must be very thin. The RAP progged sounding for Stewart (I think) valid 4z doesn't show anything above freezing. Not good for prospects for the remainder of the night. Northwest NJ
Incredibly heavy sleet now! I'm worried we go over to freezing rain and start to have power outages.

White Gorilla
I think snow will continue, mixing with sleet during lighter intensity.
chietanen
I think snow will continue, mixing with sleet during lighter intensity. Once it flips, I think that's it. It's inevitable, just take a look at dual pol, the flip is at Dutchess/Putnam line. I don't think intensity can overcome a warm layer, but I could be wrong. All in all, I think we should be happy, we will probably end up 6-8" (perhaps some spots closer to 9 or 10"). The storm met or exceeded expectations, which doesn't always happen here! Plus it looks like possibly another snowfall on Tuesday (1-3 or 2-4" deal). Now if we can survive a mini torch late week, we should have ourselves a white Christmas! jdt
anything thrown back this way? =) Looked to be 2-4" / 3-5" for NW NJ. I have not looked but hear the 18z NAM looks good and supports 3-5" type deal NW NJ and would suspect a bit more to the NE / ENE as is typical with strengthening clippers. gravitylover
I didn't get a serious measurement but I'd put it at 7. Was nice and fluffy last night around 9 when I shoveled but considering how cold it was the snow was already pretty dense. I think the wind had beat the flakes up and it packed more tightly. There was about 5" at that point and it was still all snow but turned to sleet not too long after and this morning there was another 2" of crystal/sugar snow with a rain crust. I think if we get a bit more on Tuesday and that sets up before the warmup this stuff may be around for a while. One of my primary "gauges" for how good a winter is is how long we have a snowpack for and having it start on 12/9 and locked in by the 15th would give it a heckuva head start. So... what's with this end of week wet stuff I see in the forecast

Probably decent ratios in there especially since it is a clipper Just by going off this run I would say 3-5" areawide...

Guest Patrick
I measured eight, but no one in the area came in that high and this board is very fast to label a weenie.... And its not worth my time. But being a few minutes away, now that makes sense. Little odd that mountain creek reported 10 new inches of snow from the storm.
