It's been a long time. Perhaps feb 26th 2010? Certainly the last few winters have seen the coastal areas cash in on the monster storms more. This area has had a rough patch for sure.

One of my favorites! Some of the heaviest snowfall rates I have ever witnessed.. Some parts of eastern Orange county ended with 32-38". Only difference with that one was the extreme cutoff of heavy snow from W-E.. Parts of western Putnam county were getting buried while it was ++RN in Danbury. Truly an amazing storm to watch unfold..

At 6 pm, the temperature reached 19° in White Plains. This was the first reading below 20° since last winter when the temperature fell to 18° on February 2, 2013.

This cold is the real deal Don..  Do you see this -EPO pattern continuing through the winter? Its been a looong time since I've seen a start this cold..

It was definitely a W/E type deal, very unusual to watch SW CT get shut out, and for areas over here to do better.    All I know is that apart from this storm, 2009-2010 was one of the most frustrating seasons for me... I had just moved up here from NYC and I had hoped for a snowier place to live.  Little did I know I would have to sit and watch storm after storm crush the mid-atlantic while I sat here smoking cirrus under a rotting, confluent air mass.

Yeah that season was pretty frustrating for most in the interior. Obviously we know thats the exception and not the norm. Ive been up here since the mid 90s and those sharp qpf cutoffs were the craziest I've seen especially that consistent in a season. Ironically Feb '10 was probably the snowiest month I've ever experienced with about 52" for that month alone.

I am not going to get drawn in by the NAM, but that would be awesome as depicted.

The NAM definitely has a reputation for going ballistic at this time range. Don't remember the exact event last year but at about this range it was showing obscene amounts of near 40" in NNJ. Not as out there with this run but on high side of all guidance thus far thus needs to be taken as suspect for now based on past performance. If rest of 0z trends similar then we may be seeing a real uptick if not then the NAM is likely upto it's usual games and by 18z tomorrow will come back in line. As of now I like 5-8" for the NW areas with sleet possible especially SE edge. 8"+ possible ~I-84 on north in typically favored locations.

Exactly my thinking... Until it has some support stick with the original plan

Guest Patrick

hi-ho Northwest friends.... I'm just an amateur, but I'm liking the Euro--GFS--NAM--GEM combination... I'm more and more convinced we in the NW burbs are gettin' smoked this weekend....
