Leelee
Snow stopped, I can't believe the band made it north of S Buffalo and it's still truckin' north. Poor job, models.

Gotta give credit to the nam,it's bufkit data had the winds back all the way to 245-250 while gfs only had 255 for this timeframe..
BuffaloWeather
Heaviest snow is right around the airport currently. Look at those returns on radar 2-4 inches per hour in that band currently. Winds will begin to back within next few hours and send it back south towards the southtowns again. But it will be slowly moving this time around. I always prefer WRF/NAM/RAP/HRRR for lake effect events. They are much more accurate in comparison to Euro and GFS which I prefer for synoptic systems. Buffalo Bumble
Holy balls! Drove past airport on way home about 30 min ago - vis about 100 feet, easy 2"/hr, probably a bit more. Ripping pretty good at home with about 3" down.
BuffaloWeather
Thunder snow around the airport, bet 4 inches per hour are falling there right now.
Leelee
3.6" so far, this is among the lowest moisture snow I've seen, I wonder what the ratios are. That band is still moving north, I hope it doesn't quickly pass through here when winds turn west.

Leelee
I feel bad for people stuck in traffic. It must be awful out there considering this wasn't expected for the areas that are getting it now. Except for Devin, who likes driving in this stuff and is crazy. lakeeffectkid383
Band appears to be heading back south now and hopefully it doesn't fly through here. Id be happy with another 4-6" from the band later. Picked up 6" more today with about a foot on the ground. Took 1 hr 40 min to get home from work today which is usually a 20 minute drive,
BuffaloWeather
...VERY HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW TO CONTINUE... A BAND OF VERY HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW OVER SOUTHERN JEFFERSON COUNTY EXTENDING TO THE EAST INTO NORTHERN LEWIS COUNTY WILL REMAIN IN PLACE THROUGH THE REST OF THE EVENING HOURS. THIS LAKE BAND WILL PRODUCE SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR OR MORE WHICH WILL RESULT IN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT DRIVING CONDITIONS. FURTHERMORE...WESTERLY WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WILL CREATE BLOWING OF SNOW AND NEAR WHITE OUT CONDITIONS.

Leelee
Don Paul says 6-9 through here and hefty extra accumulations everywhere, but I'm honestly puzzled as to why The short term models have the band well into the southern tier by about midnight. I bet you can get the 6-9" between now and midnight! Those solid yellow with occasional orange specks popping up have typically yielded 4-5"/hr rates....at least up around the TYX radar site in Montegue. lakeeffectkid383
The band is losing intensity, thinning out, and booking it to the south, theres no way in hell I get the 6-10" tonight the NWS has for me. Id say no more than 2" thinking by 830 that band will already be south of me. So frustrating as the other day the band swung very quickly to the south as well, yesterday I was on the northern fringe of the band, and today that band is gonna swing through here very rapidly. Oh well, cant complain too much with a foot of snow on the ground.
Leelee
The snow isn't as strong as before, and the band is nearly past me on radar. 6-9 additional, pff. I should get Paul to ban me with how badly he botched this entire thing.
Syrmax
Somewhat rare occurance.....L. Erie band feeding a "secondary" L. Ontario band: Noticed that today also, on our large video wall that displays the whole northeastern US. The Erie band ended up over that concave section of shoreline from about ROC to Sodus Pt and created a double structure with the many band to the North. Very unique. The other day we had the Lake Ontario band essentially being seeded from all the way back off Lake Michigan. What's that...about a 1,000 mile streamer? Good stuff. Maybe the band will re intensify and slow down once it gets to the Boston Hills again.

lakeeffectkid383
We will be lucky to see an inch here. The snow is falling very lightly right now and that band looks pathetic on radar. Huge bust for the southtowns tonight.
OSUmetstud
Not a great event in Lackawanna...still substantial though...living in Bermuda for 3 years and living through 2 of the worst winters in Buffalo's history has caused my view to be a bit altered. It feels like a real winter, for sure.
