Ginx snewx
Sandy outages were from 70-85mph winds for the most part. Think about that.flooding of substations caused the most in SWCT I believe. NJ had the triple threat
mupawxnut
And the '91-'92 winter stunk just like 2011-2012. I'm skeptical of '93-'94 cold though this year. '91-'92, '01-'02, '11-'12. Are we on to something here?

forkyfork
At least NJ had a lesson in building homes 4' ASL. any barrier island near a population center is going to be developed for summer tourism... look at fire island, ocean city, etc
CoastalWx
If I get a '93-'94 pattern, I'll grab GInx and Jerry's tab at a Spring gtg. And I don't mean some cold and above normal snow..I mean a '93-'94 pattern. Of course either way we win...lol.

Now you do. I've been there. It's actually very nice, but you have homes just above sea level protected by an ant hill of sand. I even thought to myself how bad it would be if a storm ever hit them. But, nobody wants those eye sores, so you roll the dice. The price of living by the water.
Damage In Tolland
yeah agree. wasn't the new CT state record verified from that storm?Yeah 35 inches of snow here was your typical everyday storm . Happens almost every year
bobbutts
Sandy outages were from 70-85mph winds for the most part. Think about that. 85 mph = 38 m/s so this chart isn't all that applicable for Sandy, but it seemed like a good time to post it.

MainePhotog
54.1°F right now off a high of 55.8°F. Feels and looks like fall. Winds gusting to 27 mph out of the NNW. Cloudy at times. Gorgeous!
Tropopause_Fold
euro would suggest there's a shot at frozen precip for the mountains of Maine tomorrow. There's a solid cold pocket that rotates through and some precip showing up.

There's a solid cold pocket that rotates through and some precip showing up. I'd believe it...we picked up almost a half inch of clear glaze from freezing rain last night and this morning. If only there was some deeper lift to punch up into the snow growth zone I'd be making snowmen on the picnic tables here near 4kft, lol....it's all low level stuff forming at like H85 or H8, so no ice crystals in the marginal temps. If that stuff in Maine can tap deeper into the cold and form some crystals, maybe some flakes will be flying.

CapturedNature
Looks like BOX is keeping the winds up a bit in my neck of the woods tonight which could hamper radiational cooling. Long time ago we'd say that this is the kind of night where more sheltered locations could drop fairly well. Well placed hills can make all the difference.
