Thanks Jer :)

Brian (wxcentral) and I both did. Hard to believe we've all known each other for so long.

PSU Pete was a high schooler then. He became a degrees met but ultimately ended up a doctor (psychiatry think). Mfdwx is on Facebook....and of course Rick (Logan11). Man I was a kid of 52 back then.........

Just got back from the a few days in the Albany area - One of my very best friends died the other day and I was dealing with the wake and services over the past few days.  I'm not sure why I am telling this here, except maybe for the fact that I enjoy this forum, as it makes for good reading sometimes when things suck.  FB is a crappy forum most of the time, plus I've already spoken to as many people in real-life that I want to about it all.  The past few days were sad, exhausting, and somewhat happy all at the same time. Too many emotional shifts in such a short period of time.  I suppose it's just nice to be away from it now, and move forward.

Bring on Autumn.

That is all.

While I hate having to go to the dump (that fact that it's only open on Tuesdays/Saturdays from 12:00-5:00 really hampsers weekend planning),it is a scenic drive.  I tookd these on my way there yesterday.  Not as scenic as PF's pictures, but I like the view nonetheless.

These are all taken from the top of Patten Hill.  It's about a mile from my house and is part of my running loop (good hill lworkout, Kevin.).

The first one is looking to the north and SVT.

The second is to the NE toward Monadnock

The little hill rising form the farmhouse in the third  is the knoll on which lies the Pit.

Great pics

Kevin is a closet country fan...

Speaking of which, I saw Kenny Chesney wandering around in Stowe last weekend (he is surprisingly short in person, listed as 5'6" but probably even smaller)...

He wasn't playing but was here for a wedding I think. Robert De Niro's daughter was getting married, and there were all sorts of celebrities wandering our small town...folks like Will Smith, Al Pacino, etc. They rented out the entire Trapp Family Lodge property and even closed the road leading up there.

Stowe is the Aspen of the east...certainly different than a lot of Vermont, and not necessarily in a good way. But it's fun to see these folks from time to time. Two years ago I saw Brad Pitt and John Travolta at the ski area, and the police chief was ousted several years ago for using tax-payer money to drive Julia Roberts around town, among other things, lol.

He also popped into Grace Potter and Nocturnals' festival in BTV to sing You and Tequila.

Ah, so we should have cropped his head instead of yours on the person strolling with Will in the snow!

That's awesome though, I'm a huge Chesney fan... one of my favorites actually.

Still raining ..but clear line of blue off to the NW

Amazing how even the Oaks are changing colors already. That's early for them

You get color in your oaks?  Any that I've had over the years just went to brown.

Fortunatley, no oaks here.  Sugar maples and cherries predominate the Pit.  But, there are a rew pine, birch, beachnut, and aspens to keep pit lively.

Well as you know I live in an Oak forest with every species imaginable. Some if them turn a reddish bronze, some get some ugly yellows and some just hideous brown. Acorns almost non existent this year. Lightest on record by far

I have a bunch of them. They suck.

Yup--dropping leaves so late in the season.  Many hanging on through the winter.  They make for good burning though.

Gorgeous day out there.  Not a cloud in the sky overhead nor to the west.  Still visible in the east, but I'm sure that clearing is headed your way soon enough.

We have red oaks, white oaks, etc and all have different colors along with the maples, birch, etc.  The red oaks can have a vibrant red and along with some other oaks which are more yellow colors but they tend to add to the fading color late in October.  Peak for us is usually Columbus Day weekend.

Our forests in Stafford and Union are more of a mix and contain a nice mix of different varieties besides oak.  Tree types in CT are interesting because in different places oaks were the preferred trees 100-200 years ago because they used it to make charcoal that was used in the iron making process.  Other varieties would be cut down to favor the oaks.  If you travel around, you'll see areas that predominantly oak and others that are more of a mix (like here in Stafford and Union).  Union's hollows are mostly filled with evergreens which is even more pretty when you mix in the fall colors.

Temps continue to fall nicely here, down to 58°.  Last night kind of felt muggy...summers last gasp before 16:44?
