metalicwx366
Just watch. There will be a large area of convection closer to the Gulf and it will cut-off our rain here. You can already see it dissipating over central AL.It doesn't happen when you expect it. I see the radar up there lol.
DaculaWeather
LOL! Of course!!! i got an inch of rain in 20 minutes! :-) One more heavy line to come through and I've had about 1.30" so far.
Wow
Steve if you do need to use js scripts use jquery... handles all of the cross browser problems that baseline JavaScript can have. Used it with great success with the model center coding. Very cool! Thanks for letting me know! :-) It is straight CSS code, no javascript needed. It should work fine on any modern browser. DaculaWeather
I use jQuery for graphing of my data. I like the interactive legends that let you turn things on and off. Brick Tamland
Lots of rain here. Been a dreary day. On a good not, saw Wx South post on Facebook that this winter looks like a good one for snow and ice.
GaWx
Sitting here watching football and listening to the rain while I' working on web pages... sounds like fun, huh? See if these pages for for you now, I haven't even tried them in anything but Chrome and IE9 (shadows don't show in 9 for some reason) but it seems to work well there http://www.daculaweather.com/4_southern_region_weather.php http://www.daculaweather.com/4_midwest_weather.php And Larry... you must be busy watching football on that new TV, how's that going? Awesome! I raised brightness from 45 to 70, lowered contrast from 100 to 90, and lowered sharpness from 50 to 20.

FallsLake
We're just a couple of weeks out were we can start looking for the first frost/freeze chances. Rember frost can occur in mid-upper 30s (because actual ground temps run colder). Don't see anything on the models. Day 16 on the GFS looks like cold air pushing south (**but that's day 16 of the GFS). I've seen our first frost in early/mid October and as late as November. Here's one event from mid October 2006: http://www4.ncsu.edu/~nwsfo/storage/cases/maps/mint.20061015.gif Average frost and freeze map: http://www.wral.com/asset/weather/2009/10/19/6241580/Central_North_Carolina_Fall_Frosts_and_Freezes.pdf

calculus1
I thought this line was great in the AFD from GSP this morning: .SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...AS OF 2 AM WEDNESDAY...IT LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE A PERIOD OF QUIET EARLYAUTUMN WEATHER IN STORE FOR THE LATTER PART OF THE WEEK. THE MODELSCONTINUE THE RECENT TREND OF TAKING THE REMNANTS OF AN UPPER LOWOVER THE MID ATLANTIC COAST ON THURSDAY MORNING AND GRADUALLYFILLING IT WHILE IT IS ABSORBED INTO THE CYCLONIC FLOW OFF THE EASTCOAST. ONE FINAL VORT CENTER ROTATING AROUND THE OLD UPPER LOW ISSTILL EXPECTED TO MOVE OVERHEAD ON THURSDAY...BUT THE MODELS SHOWALMOST NO MID/UPPER FORCING WITH IT. ANY PRECIP THAT DEVELOPS WILLHAVE TO DO SO WITH THE HELP OF WEAK EASTERLY UPSLOPE AND MOISTURECONVERGENCE OVER THE MTNS...AND LOOKS LIKE IT WILL HAPPEN IN THEFORM OF SHALLOW CONVECTION. THE MODELS SUGGEST THIS WILL MIGRATE OFFTO THE SW WITH A SURGE OF COOLER AND DRIER AIR MOVING DOWN FROM THEHIGH TO THE NORTHEAST IN THE AFTERNOON...SO THE PRECIP CHANCESMIRROR THAT SCENARIO. THE PRECIP OVER THE MTNS SHOULD END QUICKLYWITH THE LOSS OF HEATING.FROM THAT POINT ONWARD...IT LOOKS TRANQUIL AS WE WILL BE ON THEFORWARD EDGE OF AN UPPER RIDGE THAT AMPLIFIES AND BECOMES MOREPOSITIVELY TILTED ON FRIDAY AND INTO SATURDAY. SKY SHOULD BE MOSTLYCLEAR THROUGH THE PERIOD...OTHER THAN SOME VALLEY FOG EACH MORNINGOVER THE MTNS. TEMPS WILL BE A FEW DEGREES ON THE COOL SIDE OFNORMAL. SOME MIGHT CALL IT SPECTACULAR...IF THE FCST IS RIGHT.

I finally completed the Southern Region Weather Summary Page, time to finish the Central Region Page: http://www.daculaweather.com/4_southern_region_weather.php Well, the issue that is impressed upon me is that the NC, SC, and VA NWS offices need to get with the program. I like those nice images provided by other NWS offices, but where are GSP and Raleigh and Columbia and Charleston and Wilmington and Blacksburg? Come on, guys and gals, we need our weather maps! Marion_NC_WX
Not sure if you guys have noticed but the last 5-6 runs but the GFS has been hinting at some deep trough or possible cutoff in the Central US and moving east the first week of October...which honestly would fit pretty well with the pattern going all the way back to spring. We had the major cutoff back in May which flooded the SoApps, the July mega pattern and now maybe something in October, probably a bit more progressive in nature but still something significant. Yes, the Eastern Region and the Western Region doesn't do those images, and it is disappointing. I was going to try to do the same thing for the Eastern Region but there is nothing to key off of. Here's the Central Region: http://www.daculaweather.com/4_midwest_weather.php I do have AFD's, HWO's, forecast, etc for those offices, just no images to display. DaculaWeather
I can go ahead and begin building a page and then add the links for the images when they become available. That's great to hear. I really like browsing those images to quickly see what's going on in other places.
