Agree on the last 2 winters sucking. Last year sucked even though some folks were turd polishing it.

11-12 was a clunker almost region wide but DTW at least had above average snow last winter. Numbers can mislead but they don't lie. How you get to the endpoint matters but it's a lofty standard when an average to above average year sucks.

Anyhow, things are kinda getting off track in this thread.

I kind of get what the Michigan folks mean, but I rarely consider an average to above snowfall season lackluster. However, when there isn't a signature storm or two and it is backloaded, enough anxiety takes place so it is not as fun at the time as a frontloaded winter.

I haven't had a 6 inch snow since Feb 2011... I have only hit 12 inches one time in 34 years, that was Dec 11th-12 2000.

Lackluster to me, that's less than 75% of normal snowfall and no periods longer than 2 weeks with snow staying on the ground.

So Feb 2011 is the last time I recorded a 6 inch depth, that was unheard of in the 2000's.

Wow, I figured you would have a 6"+ storm every winter. Your location is as far north as I am, but obviously different during the winter.

Around here usually a 12" storm occurs every 3 winters.

Back to September type weather.

Snapped this shot of the corn fields about to be harvested in Kenosha County. Couple fields over it was being harvested.

Looks like it will make a run at 40° tonight. LAF is in a mild wedge tonight.

Yeah, the 4KM NAM is picking up on the lake effect clouds holding temps up south of the lake. Meanwhile, it's showing 40 over on my side of the state. I don't think we'll decouple enough to radiate. I'm calling 44 for the FWA area.

I think it can decouple around here. Winds were already really light during the day. Clouds just about out of here.

Edit: 0z run, little bit colder here.

very chilly all day... has stayed around 50 with clouds.  tonight will be the 3rd frost/freeze advisory this fall.  one patchy frost and one decent frost so far.  If it clears, a heavy frost is looking likely....  leaves have really started to color up.

one good thing is my ragweed allergy has improved.

61° is all it could do under mostly sunny skies.

Temperature fall ahead of yesterday.

Edit: The minutes leading up to sunset I watched the sun set. Last time the sun will set at or north of the end of my street (street is lined perfectly E-W) until March 20.

This.

Jongers area didnt get 6"+ from the Dec 26th storm last year..plus it was a very I-94 centered winter (ARB had well over 60" of snow).... But hey the complaints will always rule. Hopefully we get the BIG one this year. Not that it would satisfy all...itll probably be a 14-17" event when models had 20-26", and...well...you know how that goes ;)

Anyway yes...to get back on topic...HAPPY FIRST DAY OF FALL to all. The last several years Ive learned to temper my worries, fears, or excitement for the coming winter because Fall is way too gorgeous- and short- of a season to be waste being worried about the snow months ahead. Love that crisp smell in the air right now...

+1

If you really think about Autumn is only about 5 weeks long as far as how the long the trees are in color.

Loving the 40s at night. Already 48° here.
