Question.... Southerly lowlevel jet is making itself known here in Queens this afternoon, absolutely whipping. LGA gusted to 38mph last hour (3pm), surprisingly outdoing KJFK with max gust to only 23mph comparitively.

Can anyone chime in why the stronger gusts are on the north side of Queens? Is there an inversion on the south shore in lieu of being prevelant to the flow off the water, limiting the gusts, and ramping it up with more mixing just further north?

I was lurking around and was intrigued in the fact you mentioned this because I happened to blog about it a couple days ago.

It does look like this +EPO/-PNA pattern will continue for awhile. I do not think the NAO stays negative for long either.

It's a bit uncertain at this point how long the pattern will last. The Euro weeklies give a strong signal

through the first week of October. Weeks 3-4 usually are lower skill as the forecast degrades over

time.

I had a strong suspicion that September would be gorgeous after the eternal clouds and rains this past summer. Another week of brilliant sun, seasonable temps, and low humidity. Really get out there and enjoy because it's not often we get this type of weather (long stretches of sunny 70-75 degrees).

That must be a dog day? Lol

Omg one or two spots got to around 80 for a day or two. A far cry from all that talk and wishing of widespread mid 80's to around 90 10 days ago....fail!

He has a bigger warm bias than the DGEX, while it's obviously subjective yesterday felt relatively comfortable. Today and tomorrow are going to be AMAZING!

I think it's just b/c it seemed like you were making a point about something by responding to his post with the highs.

Agree absolutely gorgeous weather and the next 5 days will feature more of the same.

thanks iso.  It was clearly a touch warmer from SI south and west,  Yesterday was very nice as well and had a late summer feel and today an early fall feel.  The roller coaster has been leaning cooler the last 2 weeks (overall) since the heat.  Looks like we continue back and forth with some more warming the end of the week and next weekend.  I think we start to ride closer to normal and see less large swings after next weekend/early October,

Most of C-/NE-NJ and parts of the city hit 80 (+) yesterday is more than one or two.  Friday the 80 degree readings were confined to NJ.  You guys need to settle this over a few beers or something.  Mister freeze vs Mister Heat miser.

The CFS did a nice job showing the warmest temperatures this month out west.

The CFS has done a pretty good job simulating the monthly departures about a month in advance. Not sure how great it is at forecasting more than one month in advance. This is what it has for DJF. Cool in the east, warm in the west.
