free_man
...DISCUSSION...SUPPRESSION OF UPPER RIDGING ACROSS THE NRN U.S. IS EXPECTED FROMTIME TO TIME DURING THE MEDIUM RANGE PERIOD AS TRANSITORYSHORT-WAVES EJECT ACROSS THE NRN INTER-MOUNTAIN REGION...ACROSS SRNCANADA BEFORE TURNING SEWD INTO NEW ENGLAND. EACH OF THESEFEATURES...HANDLED A BIT DIFFERENTLY BETWEEN THE GFS/ECMWF...MAYINDUCE POCKETS OF STRONG/SEVERE CONVECTION...ESPECIALLY DURING THELATE AFTERNOON/EVENING HOURS. HOWEVER...TIMING AND PLACEMENTREQUIRED FOR GREATER PREDICTABILITY ARE LACKING AND A 30 PERCENTSEVERE PROBABILITY WILL NOT BE INTRODUCED THIS PERIOD. Quincy
It's looking more and more like Wednesday won't materialize at all, however we'll have to watch the thunderstorm threat tonight. The models have been ramping things up a bit.

Damage In Tolland
Looks like we could be in for quite a light show tonight. Lightning wise..and historically we've seen some of our best storms(lightning)..waters being at their warmest helps with this

Lightning wise..and historically we've seen some of our best storms(lightning)..waters being at their warmest helps with this I don't see that connection. Lightning intensity/amount has to do more with the amount of Cape in the -10C to -30C layer.

Quincy
Lightning can sometimes appear more vivid at night with less light pollution, so it's all about perception.

Thunder can be louder at night, too, due to a phenomenon known as ducting -- basically, CG through a lower level inversion causes the sound-waves to bounce about a bit longer than well mixed during max heating.
