Did the cicadas hatch late? Lots of noise tonight.

I saw one about a week ago

Lots of crickets. As per usual

I noticed the crickets have been really loud for the past week. Tonight there's another noise I haven't heard before. It's like a squeaky crackling sound. Hard to describe.

There are multiple species of Annual Cicadas (different from the 17 year Cicadas) that hatch throughout the summer.  There are also a couple of species of Katydids that can be quite loud as well.

Cicada (Tibicen Pruinosus) that had just hatched in my yard a few weeks ago.

Nice picture...My grandfather told me when I was a kid that when you hear the cicada's (maybe it was the katydids) that frost wasn't far off.  He'd say 30-40 days and sure enough we are just about that far off from our first frost.  I still smile when I hear them.  The funny thing is that they don't always come out on the same day but it's usually about 30 days till our first temp in the 30s.

Just got rocked by a decent thunderstorm here with plenty of lightning and torrential rains. The line was definitely strengthening as it moved through, which is rather unusual as they almost always weaken when entering the Taconics and Berkshires.

yeah saw that radar lite up near you, nice

HPC seeing potential.

Sounds like we are right in the "Ring of Fire" FTW

LL IN ALL, THE PATTERN IS A DRY ONE FOR MOST OF THE UNITEDSTATES, ESPECIALLY WHEN COMPARED TO THE VERY WET SUMMER NOWWRAPPING UP IN THE CLIMATOLOGY BOOKS. THE WILD CARD IS THE LOWERCOLORADO VALLEY IN THE FAR SOUTHWEST, WHERE TROPICAL MOISTURE MAYGREATLY ENHANCE RAINFALL EARLY IN THE PERIOD. OTHERWISE, EXPECTMOST OF THE RAINFALL OVER THE NATION TO BE ON THE PERIPHERY OF THESUBTROPICAL RIDGE--ARCING FROM THE NORTHWEST, ACROSS THE DAKOTAS,DIPPING INTO THE NORTHEAST AND MID ATLANTIC,

After storm view here in Stowe. Temp cooled right off from low 80s to mid 60s.

Nice pic, Scott.

Growing up in RI (and not Foster-Gloucester) all of my winter nor'easters felt like fall ones too.

Nightmares of New London revisited.

3-day "heat wave" at BDL:  87, 88, 83, and low temps were actually below average two out of the three days.

While I was away, I had expected it a big warm up.  Not a heatwave by  any stretch, but something in the uncomfortable range.

The 3-day reality here?

Tues:  80.0

Wed:   81.1

Thurs: 80.5

Horrid conditions.

63.3/57
