mattie g
Went to ride the train at Cass today, 53 degrees on top (4730) at 2 pm! Super day. Driving through Cass to get to Snowshoe is unnerving. Weird place.
EastCoast NPZ
I understand the complexity and challenges of weather forecasting - totally; however, I still have to laugh when I check out Accuwx's extended-range forecasts. Yesterday, it showed a virtual heat-wave for next week and basically through the rest of the month. Today's version still has heat for next week (though slightly cooler upper 80s instead of low 90s), but the temps for the week after next have dropped by at least 15 degrees for most days. What is the point of an extended-range forecast that can vary with such magnitude in a single day? I know that someone will point out that the extended-range is simply computer output, but they put it out there to the public. For what purpose, I do not know. I just hope today's output for the rest of the month verfies. Another beatiful morning. Low of 50 at KOKV.
MN Transplant
Up in the poconos. 48 right now. BWI pulled a reverse DCA this morning. Lowest ob - 56. 6 hr low - 53. 62 @ DCA. Harder to get low there without the breeze. I was similarly a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday.

EastCoast NPZ
Has anyone heard from Subtropics since yesterday? With this cold wave, I'm worried that he's succumbed to hypothermia. Let this be a reminder to everyone to check on your neighbors. With temperatures this extreme, if the heat goes off even for a second, it could be fatal. We actually lost power last night from around 2am until 5am. The house was downright frigid. The national guard had to come through.

Kmlwx
The 90 degree days are numbered. I certainly hope so. I am trying to get grass seed in the ground and due to schedule constraints have to do it before it would be ideal.
ravensrule
Till January at least. You should start putting on your speedo in the winter, you would have better tan lines .

It's called a Kelvin-Helmholtz cloud/formation. Though it looks like in your picture it was a bit dry near the base of the wave.

Actually I told son on way home I wasn't sure how to drive on the roads without them being white up there, THAT felt strange! Son took an awesome pic of a sun dog just as we got to the Lewisburg airport yesterday evening. Oh, and saw maybe 5-10 maples turning in the deeper hollers higher up too. Love that area but driving in the winter can be challenging. I really dont like US 219 from Lewisburg up to Marlinton, up and down all those damn mountains, gets tiring after a while But still gorgeous. Yeah I got a pic of a sun dog here the other day too, was pretty cool to see. Glad you mentioned that about some of the trees in higher elevations. good to know. I saw one weed maple or whatever you want to call it on Fairfax co pwky in Reston area this afternoon that was totally red unless my eyes were playing tricks on me. Very very random.
