IAD would have prob been in the 40s if DPs weren't so "high" last night. I was hoping DCA would get 59, seems like we just missed. Prob haven't been too many 50s for lows in August at DCA

It isn't that rare, though not common,  but most have been in the 2nd half of course....our all-time August min of 49 was set in 1986 which is remarkable

I have no kids old enough to go to school, but this working mom of an 8month old will enjoy going home in the evenings and taking a dip in the pool :)

Want to clarify that all I meant was that quite a few years it has been very hot the first week back in school. Hence saying that of course it will be hot next week as it is the start of school.

Ahh, that makes sense :)

Amazing afternoon! Can't believe how comfortable it is. Just wish it was a weekend day, not a work day. This time of year, through about mid-October, has some of the most incredible weather days of the entire year.

The first half of Aug for Winchester is -3.5F for the highs, but only -.86F on the lows.

Unfortunately, If Accuwx is right, we'll be fortunate to finish Aug below normal.

Where did you get that info on KOKV? I've never been able to find a summary. I always have to average the departures.

I don't mind the winter weather through New Years. Very seasonal, with the holidays and all. However, I can do without the cold and wind of January and February. If only it actually snowed here during those months, it would be more bearable.

Yup.  Our winters suck, and there's pretty much no reason to look forward to them.

I understand the complexity and challenges of weather forecasting - totally; however, I still have to laugh when I check out Accuwx's extended-range forecasts.  Yesterday, it showed a virtual heat-wave for next week and basically through the rest of the month.  Today's version still has heat for next week (though slightly cooler upper 80s instead of low 90s), but the temps for the week after next have dropped by at least 15 degrees for most days.  What is the point of an extended-range forecast that can vary with such magnitude in a single day?  I know that someone will point out that the extended-range is simply computer output, but they put it out there to the public.  For what purpose, I do not know.  I just hope today's output for the rest of the month verfies.

Another beatiful morning.  Low of 50 at KOKV.
