Camping in Falmouth--you?

LOL--I just saw your new name.  Classic!

We'll be in Falmouth too!  I'll give you a call or text if I can get my hands on the family's motor boat.  What campground?

Weather looks stunning.

Changed the name because I was tired of people thinking Happy Valley refered to that "other"  much less happy valley in PA.

Plus HippyValley is quite appropriate for this area.   lol

Well--Hippy Valley is a great name!

We're staying at Sippewissett.  We're not doing true camping, we got a cabin instead.

I think everyone had some heat coming back toward the end of August. Summer's back was officially broken by this recent stretch though. A few warm or muggy days in late Aug or early Sep is NBD. By then the descent is on.

What would your description be of a stretch in the corresponding month of  February that would officially break Winter's back ?

If we had deep cold and snow all January with like highs of 15-20F for the most part, continuing into the first half of Feb, then we turned the corner with two weeks of 40s and melted out....we'd say maybe it gets cold and and snows again later in March, but winter's bite is done.

So nice to hear mets talking about an extended period of deep summer coming back. The thing us though I think folks would have preferred we had it thru all if August and transition to a cool pattern in Sept when it actually would be fall. This is exactly what we worried about

No. We (the collective average) prefer cool whenever we can get it.

And who is saying September turns out to be a summer month like you are alluding? There are no signs that we go positive departures for a month straight, lol. Could just be like a week of mild up in late August.

Maybe an extended period in the lower 80s.

Endless summer this year--80's and 90's into October?

I wouldn't want to lose the winter month of September like we did in 1993....and again 1995...2002 and 2010.

Apples and oranges. We think "winter" as long as there's legit snow chances. When I say summer's back has been broken I just mean that we're near the end of the oppressive stretches. No one has said no more warmth or humidity...just that we're about done with the heat waves and 95/70 days. Obviously we can still get 90s into September, but the probability is dropping off quickly by the time we get through the cooler stretch next week.

Yeah summer obviously peaked 7/19. But we frequently have long humid stretches with temperature 84-89 in late August early September. 95 is far less likely.

Last night around 10pm was about as oppressive as I can recall. Marvelous day today despite working.

Huge change in air mass between steamy 80s yesterday and brisk northwest flow and 70s today...even here in the Bronx it's quite comfortable outside, perfect for a jog. We avoided the majority of the heavy rains yesterday with 6" just to the north in Middletown.

I wondered if this would happen.......I saw MOS had mid to upper 80s for ern mass today. So far, BOS is 83 for a high. Some pretty good CAA occurring which is helping to offset the downsloping.

Yesterday's forecast for Dobbs Ferry had 88F for today's high, and we haven't gotten close. NWS revised to 82F this morning, and that looks closer. We've been in the upper 70s most of the day.

Columbus day weekend 2011. 86 degrees. Ugh.

October 2007 was similarly brutal. I was doing an urban education semester at Vassar in Poughkeepsie, and I remember the dorms were sweltering as it remained in the mid to upper 80s late in the month. The campus farmers' market had eggplant and heirloom tomatoes well into November, later than I had ever seen such items. September and October were a torch that year but November had a strong reversal as the first frosts turned into hard freezes. December also had near-zero temperatures in Westchester before warmth arrived due to the southeast ridge.
