Early August Wx Discussion

I think summer's back might be broken...or at least in Clay Buchholz shape. I expected a return to warmer conditions and a stronger WAR by mid-month, but its not going to happen.

We could still get some hot weather late in month, but it becomes quite difficult and the hot days in late August and early September are usually relegated to 92F at BDL and BOS with downsloping dry winds versus the true scorching stuff or 94/70 type humid stuff. The muggy days by that point are more like 84/70.

2010 saw a pretty impressive heat wave for many in late August...but tough to get those. I think that was the only one we've had in years. The late 40s/early 50s have a lot of them in the records. So who knows. There isn't any sign of it returning though at least as far as the ensemble can see.

Here are some clips from Springfield, Mass. shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday. I was in the northwestern part of town near the Chicopee and West Springfield lines.

There are a few good slugs of hail around 0:40 and then it really ramps up for the last minute. Just as I called the NWS it started coming down really hard. In total it was hailing for a solid 5 minutes.

It may change in late August or September, but at least through the 20th or so....tough for me to see a legit pattern change to constant warm and humid. Some signs it might turn warmer after, but this whole "turning warmer" seems to be consistently pushed back.

and like in winter when the switch to cold/snow is always 10 days away, that's a sign of trouble.....

Some nice footage there.  A co-worker from Chicopee shared some pictures that she took of the hail covering the ground.  She cleared her deck and said that part of the pile was still there this morning.  Pretty impressive for August.  I missed that cell to my SW in Stafford.

Just an awesome day out there...no two ways about it...just plain awesome!

This is a day I wish I was out in the woods instead of being stuck in the office.  Looking at my online weather station it looks like it's in the upper 60s with some nice breezes with dp's in the low 40s.

Tonight should be interesting.

Not sure if there is any reality to this comment, but it "seems" Springfield and the surrounding region is a favored location for hail in the state.

Exactly, and while there might be a couple humid-ish southerly flow days ahead of approaching troughs, nothing is showing an extended stay of hot/humid wx.

Could be a diffused secondary boundary, or just diurnal mixing ... but a good push of drier air is surging into the area this morning.  Area DPs are into the low 40s along Rt 2.  37F at EEN!   That's an impressive DP for a summer month in a humid, continental summer climate zone.
