This storm may not have delivered rain-wise, but it made up for in dramatic picture show up here on the north side. Will be posting some photos soon here and in the photography section.

A lot more comfortable outside now. 71/66

Nice to see somebody getting storms.  My brother got hit pretty good in sw Lake County, no power at his house.

Just dang hot here again.  This is the second straight year with a 100 degree temp(3 of them last summer) after 17 years without one.  I'm ready for some cooler weather for sure.  Unfortunately, we just keep alternating between bone dry and hot and bone dry and normal/cool.

Still a steamy 87 currently.  Dew has popped up to 72.  Lots of lightning to the northeast as the storms try to back their way in.  Storm tops are still up around 53kft on some of the stronger cells.

You thinking the storms will make it to you?

Looks like a outflow boundary is plowing towards the metro area.

Maybe.  A 40kft cell just popped just northeast of here.  Outflow just blew through (light winds) and the temp has been knocked back to 81.

BTW the high of 99 today was the hottest of the year here.

Big storms rolling in. Luckily a few stray cells beforehand probably dispersed the crowds fairly quickly on this otherwise fair and hot evening:

Prolific lightning makers. Didnt see much in the way of winds or hail, though. Definitely dropped a lot of rain. 94 was flooded across all lanes and there were cars stalling out. Nasty drive.

There were a few tiny hailstones for a couple seconds in the heaviest part of the storm here, but nothing big. It was windier right before the storm moved in than during it, although it got gusty from time to time.

This might have been the heaviest rain I have ever drove in from the eastside of Metro Detroit to the airport. Offcially per the last observation we have had 1.87 at 53 past the hour. Looking the in house software we have had 1.99 from 11PM to 12AM, some of which will carry over to the next observation.

Honestly I don't know off hand but this has to be near the record for a 1 hour rainfall total for Detroit. If it isn't it is very very close.

Had a fantastic light show much of the evening from various storms.  A severe warned cell with hail passed just north, and that particular one was putting out tremendous intra-cloud/cloud to cloud lightning.  Almost continuous.  All in all it was all bark and no bite, as we saw nothing more than a 30sec sprinkle shower.  0.00" for the day.  Temps have cooled back over 25 degrees from earlier today though.

Through the 1AM DTW observation, Detroit is up to 16.13" for summer. This is good for the 3rd wettest summer in Detroit history, behind only 1896 (16.96") and 1980 (16.84").

I think barring any surprises tomorrow this will probably be it for the summer. Pretty incredible when you think about it. considering that we really didn't have a huge amount of severe weather this summer.
