weathafella
Lead story for the first day in five weeks that's more than a degree below normal? Max low temps records my man, not really serious but when high records are broke its the lead. As it should be. Record highs in July can kill people but record low highs are meh to all but us. CapturedNature
It truly is the West Chesterfield of Upstate New York. The geography of that area makes sense... 1,600ft is like the lowest elevation around and it sits in like a lake/swamp area (like most "low elevations" of the Adirondacks). Even the town of Lake Placid in the valley isn't that low (they are like 1,900ft)... but its just mind boggling to think of the absolute valley bottom as being still 1,600ft high surrounded by 5,000ft peaks, lol. That place is pretty ideal. Whitefield, NH is another good spot along with Berlin (airport), NH. Our valleys and hills aren't that big but I know I can run colder than the CT River Valley (like a lot of places in NE CT) but I often wonder what the temps are in the center of town given the fact that they are 200' lower than I am. I notice it on good rad. cooling nights that it's at least 2-3° cooler down the hill from me if not more. Bigelow Hollow is another example. Valleys can make all the difference. I know a couple of spots in Union around 1,000' but surrounded by hills 2-300' higher that radiate pretty well. Last night just wasn't a good night for us - those AM clouds did us in but they are great right now!

weathafella
Lead story for the first day in five weeks that's more than a degree below normal? Boston was 2 degrees below normal two days ago 3 above yesterday, well below today and perhaps tomorrow then 65% of days prpbably above for awhile. You have a period with aob and I can't remember what it was but you will bust. That said, nice call on at least a one week pattern change even if there were 2 days of high dews. ROOSTA
Is NCEP screwed up? I wanted to look at the 12Z GFS to see if it came west and its not there. Shouldn't the GFS be running by now? something is wrong even the ewall site is stuck at 60 hrs.. but you can still get some here http://www.meteo.psu.edu/ewall/ewall.html NCEP changed URL http://mag.ncep.noaa.gov/model-guidance-model-area.php

joey2002
Hottest July on record? Average high at BDL is 85, so max temps so far today 20F below normal will put a dent in that.

For verification purposes, what qualifies as high dews this time of year? I think when some posters say that, they mean anything over 60 but I would think 67 would be a better number. 66 is getting there and would be my upper limit of acceptable in the summer. joey2002
BDL hasn't been below 66 degrees in over a month, and it looks like they're about to break that streak before midnight. It actually turned out to be a 30 day streak of 66+ temps at BDL, as the low dropped to 63 degrees yesterday just before midnight.

moneypitmike
But it's not a pattern change...it's just an interlude in the WAR ring of fire. LOL. Hopefully the cool regime will hold tight for the first half of August. A couple running races coming up. Meanwhile, I was dropping my saw off for servicing today and drove by this sign. I drive by it all the time and never paid any attention until today it made me laugh. Rush hour's a b**ch in GC.
