CapturedNature
Mass Dept. of Environmental Protection regulates the city water supply. According to their rules, if the Mill River runs at less that 26.3 cfs for 3 consecutive days the water ban kicks in and stays in place until it exceeds that flow for 7 consecutive days. So even though the river is high right now they have to wait 6 days. I just read the article in the paper about this. I guess it's good that someone follows the letter of the rules unlike some of the excessive heat warnings last week that didn't verify. Better safe than sorry. powderfreak
Ya its a chilly day in high elevations of vt SLK in the Adirondacks is 53/47 at the 16z observation...pretty chilly for noon in July. BTV mentioned some spot 30s tonight in those usual locations like SLK and maybe NE VT.

Typhoon Tip
Pattern conducive to positive departures is showing up in certain teleconnectors heading through the first week of a August... Dorian is modeled to become a major Atlantic Basin player by this 12z GFS run, and it has had Dorian off and on for 7 days worth of runs by the way. It's an exercise in futility to take note of every TC that shows up in the global modeling, but once in a while a blind pig finds a nut.

powderfreak
87 here in massWow. What a different day than up here.Full autumn feel with 63F currently (MVL put up 61/53 at 1pm) and breezy with that low overcast below the summits, with patches of sun out over the valleys. Fall-like CAA, and we are like 15-20F below normal highs in the low 80s. Lows progged in the upper 30s to upper 40s area wide. Looks like mid-40s locally here in Lamoille County. Taste of fall. joey2002
The temp overnight will finally drop below 66 degrees at BDL for the first time since June 23rd. We typically have to wait until late August to get a day like that in SNE. Some of our coldest summers like 1992 and 2000 did have some potent fronts come through to give us those 66/49 days around July 25th through August 5th, but they are quite rare that early...teetering on record-breaking. You guys seem to frequently see one in late July or early August.

Yeah this took me by surprise though...I figured we'd be at least low 70s, not holding or falling through the 60s during the day in July. That's some fairly nice CAA, and daytime highs are like late September climo I think. The high temp at SLK since 12z is 54F, lol. That's pretty darn cold for even that elevation in July with no rain falling...wet bulbs are like upper 40s. Still 63/50 here...even BTV in the valley won't get out of the 60s. You can see the gradient quite well on the BTV meso-map...

Glorious day here in upstate NY. We made it to the mid 60's. We had the lead gray skies we usually see here with cold fronts coming through in the fall. When we had the breeze kick up it was quite chilly. Such an incredible change from sweltering heat last week. I had no idea NYC/ parts of SNE were still hot and sticky til I saw the maps posted. You are all in for a treat tomorrow.

The difference between today and last Wednesday is ridiculous. Daytime temps today were 30F colder than last week at this time. It's like jacket cold out at 55F at 8pm with a crisp NW breeze. It really feels like fall and its such a tease because you know real fall is like 6 weeks away.
