No one ever talks about how awful -12 with wind feels.....

That's because it doesn't ;). I usually complain once wind chills hit -40 or below. Especially the -50 days on the mountain.

They make clothes for that. They don't make clothes for 102.

I've seen you naked...go for it!

It's about 1mi from NWSBOX

http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KMATAUNT12&day=19&month=07&year=2013

It's awesome to watch how brutally off it is. 11:56 94.8 °F 156.8 °F 94.1°F 29.68in West 3.7mph - 98% - / 0.00in total

Eh. Faulty sensor. WU doesnt really QC, but MADIS would easily have thay flagged. PWS owners sending data should be aware of that stuff though.

you know what would make this worse ?

black out.

oh, man - can you imagine?

The Bronx is burning, god please no, my power house and chiller system are complete max, DPs above 77 are disaster for cooling. our chilled water is 48 degrees though and due to good planning and constant weather awareness I was able to drop temps Wed night way below setpoints when the dew was less. lots of complaints of cold areas Thurs  but staff was alerted that today would be the apex of summer and all systems would be taxed to the max. Any power loss would be disaster immediately.

The intense heat moved eastwards and peaked along the US I-95 corridor on July 22, 2011, with central park in New York City breaking the record for the day at 104 °F (40 °C) or more in the interior of city which was the hottest temperature the city had experienced in over three decades. Newark, New Jersey also reached an all-time record high of 108 °F (42 °C), as did Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia at 105 °F (41 °C). Philadelphia surpassed its daily record when it reached 103 °F (39 °C), and Boston tied for the second highest temperature on record at 103 °F (39 °C), making it the hottest day in 85 years

That dew is off by a good 5 degrees - sensor contamination FTL. When you're 5 degrees higher than GON which is practically sitting in water with a SW wind you know something's up. Nevertheless, it is hot out there no matter what the Davis's say. Luckily we've only got about another month to realistically have hot days and then we're done. 90 degree days drop off dramatically at BDL after about August 17th.

Many years?    It did this just 2 years ago....  I think it was July 22nd or 25th or something, and numerous 100 and 102 backyard and even some NWS site readings.  It's one thing to spin drama for entertainment sake, but can't it have just a modicum of truth to it, too ?

Probably right, it is a rooftop location at 50 feet, the one we use for our Central plant is reading 76 though, calibrated.

tue/wed look steamy

Yup gonna be several WTF posts coming next week. We go back to early July middle of next week

So far for July, New York City running plus 5 on temperature departures. Boston is at 5.8 above. Our July forecast was 2-3 above normal in Boston and 1-2 above normal in New York. Looks like that average will be higher. Who would of thought from a few months ago that a monster upper high would come in from the Atlantic and produce the longest heat wave of the year over the Northeast? It will cool down from the mid- to upper 90s, but core of below-normal temperatures will stay west of the Northeast, over the Midwest and Ohio Valley later this weekend into early next week. Temperatures will still be on the hot side and humidity levels will briefly drop off before coming back up next week.
