tamarack
i was a line cook in a restaurant. it was so awful. Terrible place to be in big heat. On July 3, 1966, when NYC hit 103, EWR 105, and LGA 107, I was short-order cooking at Curtiss-Wright's lake resort in NNJ. It was so hot behind the counter that our normal practice of toasting burger/dog rolls under the gas griddle was a fail - they went straight to black. There was a cheap coil thermometer on the side of the counter opening, well away from the cooking equipment, and the needle was spun far beyond the 120F end of the printed scale. We didn't want to know how hot it was.

Typhoon Tip
Yeah its not a bad rule...didn't quite do it today, which is why I'm sort of thinking we fall short of most records (that and the 850 temps but the two are not mutually exclusive). BOS may have enough though with the good wind today. Me too - doesn't quite have that pattern of behavior/vibe about it. But, the 'rule of thumb' things are not etched in stone. 93 by 11 ...heh. 21C is 21C, but if the BL heights can get to that 17C at 800mb, that could take it over the top. Interesting. powderfreak
No one ever talks about how awful -12 with wind feels..... That's because it doesn't . I usually complain once wind chills hit -40 or below. Especially the -50 days on the mountain. They make clothes for that. They don't make clothes for 102. Typhoon Tip
You know what would be cool ? If you could take a big 50 mile wide by 2 mile deep slab of this air mass and just plot down in the middle of Antarctica and see what happens. Boom
