CoastalWx
Sadly this data is unviewable since the computer engineers still cannot figure out how to hook it up to the internet. One would think this is possible since these engineers work from home.

forkyfork
I understand it was record breaking. Weren't they 3-5F higher than almost everyone else? I wouldn't doubt 104-105...maybe 106. But you can't tell me the concrete didn't have a major role in that extra 2F EWR always has over everyone else.they get downsloping off the watchung hills to the west. the closest match would be linden airport, but data from that day isn't available. the winds were southwesterly so lga was a few degrees cooler... they match ewr on w/nw flow days like today (which hit 100 at both ewr and lga)

TalcottWx
I think anyone who worked outside today away from the seabreeze agrees it met the non technical definition, ugh. AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY. AVOID PROLONGED WORK IN THE SUN OR IN POORLY VENTILATED AREAS. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENT...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK IN ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS. TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY - CALL 9 1 1. It met the non technical definition in the morning at bos.... swampy
Tropopause_Fold
wow MEX dews even down to the middle 50s here early next week. that's a nice non-change. i'll take it. can't wait to get this crappy stale air out of new england. thankfully we've had some decent marine influence yesterday and today which really helped clear the air out. nothing worse than smoggy stinky particle-loaded air. CoastalWx
teb has suburbs to its immediate west while ewr has a city. what's your point? That EWR is a concrete jungle and that siting is an ASOS disaster. Nothing you can do about it now.
Weathergun
TEB downslopes off the same hills, but EWR being in a cement factory is definitely feeling the influence. TEB got 100 yesterday. LGA and JFK got too 100 today. There are many personal weather stations today that have 100F, right now in NYC and NE NJ. Central Park reports 98 today. It the station that truly stands out more often here.

Right, EWR sticks out on certain wind directions. I could care less about PWS. They always stick out on summer days which is classic for low albedo objects to radiate heat like a mofo. CoastalWx
it's been the same more or less since they started taking obs. and it does have a few hundred feet of grass around it It's a measure of the local surroundings for sure. I just think it makes some of the older records a little more irrelevant, but what's done is done.

CoastalWx
MOS has a 240 wind. If BOS can do that, than they have a shot of approaching U90s to near 100.
Typhoon Tip
For most of J. Q. Public they could not care any less whether x, y, z criteria is exactly met; it has been difficult to do most activities out of doors since Monday. These Heat Index -related criteria are about the most subjective there are. Whether it make 100 of 98 ... it probably does not matter to those who have not benefited from AC all week. It has been difficult for the majority to endure 93/69 everyday. And yesterday and today exceeded that by some, and tomorrow probably will yet be a tick or two even higher. Having said that, the MOS has been 1 to 4F inflated all week with these high temperatures. Perhaps that is the difference.

I would like to think that thought went into these advisory/warning criteria. If the criteria is totally arbitrary/subjective than why have it. snowman21
Then why have the criteria at all? We've had more uncomfortable days. I would like to think that thought went into these advisory/warning criteria. If the criteria is totally arbitrary/subjective than why have it. They do the same thing with the first one inch snowfall of the season when they issue a snow advisory. If we're going to be accepting of that practice, then I guess what they're doing with all these heat advisories/warnings is OK too. I guess it's the spirit, if not the letter, of the criteria that matters, critical success index and all those other verification/skill metrics be damned.
