HI 108 here, as brutal as it gets down here, thank god the apex is here, the downhill slide to winter starts tomorrow

I love that first snow... but I don't like as much if it's a cold rain that ends as some snow.

There's something to be said for when it's 39F in mid November, and a dark virga plume goes over head and you get that gusty flurry or heavier snow shower.

Buuut, in the meantime -

has a single site in SNE verified excessive heat warning?

well seeing as there are zero sites from IJD to PVD in my neck of the woods that are not on the shore. all I can say is its freaking hot in the interior near coast away from the seabreeze, my HI is 108 as I type.

Its difficult when you don't have a lot of upper 90s to near 100...trying to do it with 94s and 95s is really tough.

i think most of us who were working outside met the non technical criteria , certainly well above 105 HI here though not official. IJDs DP is lower GON sea breeze, in between with many interior spots DPs in the 70's is near or above but that is not where the warning was. I would be pretty correct if I said the highest HI and hottest weather was just to the north of the sea-breeze, enough humidity for near shore but not enough inland for sea-breeze.

it's a heavily urbanized area. noel/spoony lives in jersey city and i bet it's even hotter there

Yeah there isn't much you can do I guess. If the majority of the geography is concrete then I suppose it's representative to the area. The old records are basically meaningless though.

I think anyone who worked outside today away from the seabreeze agrees it met the non technical definition, ugh.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE COMBINATION OF HOT
TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS
SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY. AVOID PROLONGED
WORK IN THE SUN OR IN POORLY VENTILATED AREAS. DRINK PLENTY OF
FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENT...STAY OUT OF THE
SUN...AND CHECK IN ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
IS AN EMERGENCY - CALL 9 1 1.

they hit 108 because it was a record airmass.  is elmira's 104 from that heatwave a joke too?

I understand it was record breaking. Weren't they 3-5F higher than almost everyone else? I wouldn't doubt 104-105...maybe 106. But you can't tell me the concrete didn't have a major role in that extra 2F EWR always has over everyone else.

Right, you look at the ob and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Happens more in the summer which makes sense with stronger sun effects on lower albedo objects.

Agree -- Taunton's AFDs have also mentioned terms such as "approaching", and "feels like it";  clearly the adherence to any specific achievement in numbers is less important.

That's not me.

Also, using NWS own HI calculator,  HFD, CEF, FIT and BAF all at or above 100 HI as of 4pm.  Fwiw -

Luckily most of our ASOS's in New England are in grassy fields with no 'mac influence.

Unfortunately, in 2003 a new system called AKOS was put in. This system was installed with haste and is known to have wild biases that exhibit themselves in the warm and cold seaons.

Sadly this data is unviewable since the computer engineers still cannot figure out how to hook it up to the internet.

Hard to get much above today usually the 102 degree days are with dps in the low 60s.

that day of the conference...2010 maybe?....was ridiculous. i think PVC HI was like 103 for several hours. i agree it's hard to push 100F with dews up 70....but we do sometimes see the 97-98 over 70+ stuff.
