Is the pattern gettin to any folks

Does bos have only hourly obs, that is the ridiculous, Stone age nonsense w these stations but it sure does build suspense lol

Back when I was first in the field, you had to wait for the teletype to print our the hourly obs.  You couldn't just look them up.  Later on you could, but you mostly had to wait for the print out.

That said, it is ridiculous that they can't submit data every 5 minutes like their CWOP providers do.

They all have obs every minute. NWS only publishes the routine hourlies and specials, but you can call the ASOS directly and get up to the minute obs that are also available in the towers and to pilots. There is a project or was to make the OMOs (one-minute observations) available on the internet on a real-time basis, but I'm not sure what ever happened to that with the budget freezes and cuts as it's not exactly an essential service. Perhaps someone here knows if it's still being worked on. Keep in mind the ASOSes themselves aren't connected to the internet, so to publish out the data there is a rather archaic process. I find it more annoying when the airports turn them off when they close for a hurricane.

I always hate that excuse when it really doesn't cost anything.  If they want to cut something, cut the monthly phone line charge and just make the 1 minute data available.  All they are doing is sending the data down the same pipe it is now.  Someone just needs to be assigned the task of re-writing the code the samples the data hourly to every minute.  It's not that complicated or at least it shouldn't be.

you can get the 5-min obs off the ncdc server...though i don't recall whether it's real time or compiled on a monthly basis.

I've always felt a high launching point was a little overrated. I can see its importance for seabreeze locales, but the 2m temps only have so much potential because of the mid level temps anyways.

Yeah it can maybe tack on a degree...maybe two, but we've seen time and again when we have a high launching point but mid-level temps do not support a 95F high...we get that leveling out after lunchtime in the low 90s and some seem shocked by it.

Normally, you might expect widespread upper 90s today with the hot start, but I'll be surprised if we see that. Maybe some 96s in the usual downslope torch spots...esp lower CT river and maybe SW CT where ML temps are a bit warmer. The rest  of us are generally in that 18-19C 850 temp range which makes it tough to get widespread >95+.

Which server?  Maybe I could write a script to parse the data...

Never mind....I found the data but it looks to be updated every couple of days.  Not really helpful for realtime usage.
