I remember being in the boundary waters/Quetico area on a canoe trip 15 years ago and seemingly seeing heat lightning nightly....until it ended up overhead.....a brilliant and spectacular northern lights display. Big check off of the bucket list that week.

That's awesome, you must have seen some fantastic sights over your wx watching career!

Heat indices in the 90s, even upper-90s, are no big deal. If the NWS wants to bust in dozens of zones every day this week and push their scores down, that's their prerogative. Tomorrow probably won't even be as bad as it was 7/18/2012.

I would expect some Hi's to tickle low 100's

August 10-15, 1988...6 in a row of 90+ at ORH...wow!

I didn't think that happened in August '88, but it did. For some reason that escaped my memory.

August 28-31, 1953 was a 4 day heatwave too. Very impressive considering the late date.

Other 4+ day heatwaves at ORH are July 27-30, 1949, August 7-11, 1949 (5 days!)...same summer too. July 18-21, 1991...I had thought this was a 3 day heatwave, but it actually was 4 days. It was the only heatwave at all (3+ days >90F) at ORH since that time until we got the 3 day heatwave in July 2011.

All the others are before the airport site like in the 1930s, though I bet we could have done it on a few of them. So the total 4+ day heatwaves I have at the current site are:

July 18-21, 1991

August 10-15, 1988

August 28-31, 1953

August 7-11, 1949

July 27-30, 1949

I may have missed on but I'm pretty sure I got all of them.

Thanks! Still impressive and rare to get a 4 day heatwave at ORH.

Mpm you were in my neighborhood today!!.

I was.  My colleague and I had a meeting in Waterbury.  We had time to kill before his flight out so we were able to stop in WH for lunch.  I also so the station on my way west on II-84 (that is your statiion, right?)

Next time, maybe we can grab a coffee.

Could maybe implement the "It's pretty warm" warnings instead

LOL.

"It's a pretty warm" launch point today. The Pit doesn't radiate--only got down to 74.9 overnight--I suspect 90 will be in the cards today.

High launch. Cbreeze mid day but how high prior? Tomorrows the all out inferno. DC Monday thru Wednesday next week.....but there the cool down will be down to the upper 80s....in a dark suit....

Interestingly, BOX has today being warmer than tomorrow out this way.  Perhaps they are anticipating a lower starting point then (upper 60's for lows rather than today's lower-70's)??

Hey we had a great month of deep summer. Deep heat and dews that I couldn't have dreamed of.

Now the heat and humidity is over for good.. Euro Ens are great.

Hope Steve calls winter too!!

You're beginning to jump the shark. All I said was "if" they verified. No need to get passive aggressive.

Ok sorry..Texas is more comparable ..You're right

What do Midland Texas and Hartford CT have in common. Both so far this July with AVG. TEMP. 80.3 degrees pic.twitter.com/BBGh2lOhQF

The guy from work I was traveling with is based out of Austin--he was commenting on how they're having a cool spell down there this year.  Relative of course.  I mean yesterday's high of 88 here was probably  11-12* above normal.
