The place we are staying at has the most massive tree I've ever seen. I can't even begin to describe how big this thing is. Does anyone know what type of tree this is?

I've seen those trees before. Newport has these trees I've never seen up this way...they might survive with slightly warmer winters or perhaps they were just planted there.

Looks like the weeping variety of European beech.  I saw some in Newport that approached 5' in diameter.  However, they get big fairly quickly when open-grown, so I'd say 100-125 yr old.  (Certainly not 500, unless Amerigo Vespucci planted it.)  ;)

European rich planted them, it gets just as cold in Newport at times as you,  a 2 degree average temp difference has nothing to do with survivability

Trees can be sensitive to changes. 2 degrees is a lot.

Anyways, yeah it's probably planted.

Hydration does not help when you burn in 15min outside in this****. SPF50 FTL. I can't wait for dailies in the low 70s again.

Yeah, hydration won't prevent sunburn but it sure helps if you have one. 100% aloe is by far the best for burns. Slather it on 3-4x/day and a moderate sunburn is much better the next day.

Meanwhile a lovely 75/68 at 8:30am. Hopefully get some cloud cover today.
