How about home stations on Wunderground? Thanks in advance

lol you don't get it do you?

I understand what your station says. But ASOS are our barometer for long-term comparisons....and it's what the weather community uses to compare observations to forecasts.

No one uses their home station to verify an official forecast, sorry. There's a reason why CT mets put up BDL's stats and Boston TV guys use BOS stats...not cherry pick PWS stations.

I do get it and as we have discussed ad nauseum on here I and many others do not agree. Dews are lower on macs than in residential areas full of trees, grass, and where humans inhabit. There's really no point in talking about it anymore. It gets old

It does. It's like banging ones head into a wall. But if models or a met forecast dews to fall into the upper 60s, and then every ASOS in the area drops to 66-69F, that's a verified and correct forecast.

You love to use BDL temperatures, why not the dew point?

What about parking lots where people shop and urban areas where people work?

That's what I saw.  I always feel bad for a record that is just a hair behind the previous one.

How about that 1966 average high?  I'll bet that seemed like a hot month to come close to average high of 90 over an entire month!

There's still half the month left and lots of time for different things to happen but yeah, we could blow the average low record away.

That month also set the standard for hottest avg high in NYC, it's 90.258 coming in just ahead of 1999's 90.226, though July 1999 was hotter by 1.75F.  July 1966 ranks just 8th for NYC's hottest Julys, and also behind August 1980.  The 72.6 avg low in 7/99 is 2nd to 73.8 in 1908, a month with near normal avg high of 86.3.

Maybe set up one of your sensors in the Big Y parking lot here in town and let's see what the difference is. Just put it in one of the grocery carts right in the middle of the blacktop

Actually, there's a large grass open area in front of the Big Y here in Stafford that I thought about doing that to.  It's open and would meet all the requirements.  The problem is that they want to build an outbuilding there some day and I'd hate to do all that work for a little data.

Blacktop is not good.  That would be like some ASOS sensors that really are on the tarmac or by vents in outbuildings.  I have no idea about BDL's.  I know CEF's used be in the middle of a large grass area a decent distance from a runway or tarmac.

Probably even lower dews but hotter temps...dews should be lower over a mall parking lot than the big tall grass fields that ASOS sit in. Every ASOS I've seen has been situated quite a bit away from paved surfaces and generally in tall meadow grass. But that grass must be lacking the daily chemicals and aggressive watering of home lawns.

There are actually ASOS on pavement?

I've seen ALB, BTV, MVL, and MPV and all four of those are in 12" or higher grass meadows. MVL even has trees in close proximity and looks like a lot of yards around here outside of those in the woods....yet it still records lower dews than area PWS.

Talk until you're blue in the face. We already told him the issues with PWS and he just does. It listen.

Well, not on it, but right next to it.  Remember that the station exists for public safety at the airport, not climate monitoring though they are used that way.  I'm not saying that they are inaccurate, it's just what they are there for.  I'll see if I can find some pictures or examples.

I've seen ones I've seen are over open grass areas - mowed and otherwise.  BDL's used to be in a corn field at the eastern end of the airport but I think that landowner changed and it's no longer a corn field and the station moved.  IMHO, that change has made BDL a much warmer place at night.
