Didn't get the storm that hit up by Katie last night, didn't really get much of anything all weekend.

But sure am enjoying the beautiful air this morning. Lovely.

Yeah, the storms were coming out of upper Carroll County - so I'm not surprised you didn't get anything. They were too far north for you. Anything that skims the MD/PA line is going to hit me.

Sounds like you got about the same as I did from the earlier rain but we had no thunder. Just a downpour.

Just a few rumbles but two loud claps that woke up everyone Im sure.

IAD 7.1" on the month, DCA 4.4", BWI 2.8"

3.7" at home.

Quite the spread between IAD and DCA. Shows how these cells can pop up and dump when they do in the summer time.

This is actually a super impressive air mass for July 29th...more impressive than probably a lot realize...to get 79-82 in the afternoon under full sun with dews in the low to mid 50s in late July is rare....8/7/04 is probably the best example of an extremely rare air mass...that one was more impressive than this one, but climatology today is actually a bit more hostile than on August 7th....

thanks for putting this day in perspective, it is unreal just how gorgeous it is out. The combo of low humidity and the air temps are a stunner for this time of year.

DCA climate record 1949 to 2012; July 15th-31st; no precipitation recorded:  591 days

High of 83 or below:  66 occurrences (11% of no precip days)

High of 84 or below:  92 occurrences (16% of no precip days)

I'm guessing a lot of these days had cloudcover, so that makes the stats even more impressive.  July 18-19, 2009 was an example of cool summer days with some cloudcover.

August 6th was also ridiculously impressive but we had the advantage of a cloudy start.....basically the weekend of 8/6-8/2004 was probably the nicest mid summer weekend I can ever remember

I moved to town that weekend, arriving late on the 5th.  I was lulled into a false sense of security. ;)

You answered the question I had a few days ago about how often do we have -6 departures in July under sunny skies.  I know Ian made a sarcastic remark about people making a big deal about a -6 (I don't even remember the day that was on), but to me it was a big deal because it was a sunny -6.  Similar idea to today.

i make sarcastic remarks about everything...

i never said it was "typical".. my memory isn't that great without a spreadsheet. i think people overdramatize pretty much everything these days though and that comparing to the past few summers is myopic.
