Just got home.  I haven't posted totals while I was gone because with the low precip showing I wasn't sure if some friendly bird had decided to stop up my rain gauge. Turns out the totals were correct.  I got 1.59 for the week I was gone.  Nothing special, but the grass is weeds are sure thick and green.

Yep we are having a thunderstorm right know. Since it is after midnight this makes the 7th straight day of rain and we ahve had rain 13 out of the last 14 days . Picked up another 0.78 inches of rain yesterday and oicking up more tonight. Lol the rain wil not end! Looking ahead to the next week or two it looks like we are pretty much stuck in this pattern. Dave wish you would have had better weather man but they don't call it the Smokey Mountains for no reason. Was a pleasure having you post down here and would have great to meet you. Hope you are your family have a safe trip back.

We had a great time regardless. You cant have a bad time in this part of the country. Great posting with you all and next time maybe we can meet up. Took us 10 hours to get home to No. Va. ugh, long day, hit some hit and miss heavy showers and nice thunderstorms in the Shenandoah valley of VA. Thanks again for your insight on the climo in the area, much appreciated.

It's been quiet here today, less than a quarter-inch in the gauge...with the worst of this event coming to an end, I've got my eyes on the models and sure enough the hints are there for a repeat. We shall see...

Its because I left town this morning   It figures.

Dang, Steve, I'd have bet you were getting hammered all week!

This event sure has been selective.  It's all relative, of course, so near to a drought.  3 or 4 inches is a bounty, but compared to some, just a trifle.  Wish we had more reports from Ala. as the train has been over them consistently for a few days now, and Ga. seems to be feast or less feast, with the fetch off the Atlantic seeming to deliver more, to many.  I know a lot of mine has been Atlantic rain, even with the gulf fire hose blasting just a county or two away most of the time.

Glad you didn't get into any fog, Dave!!

Mr. Metalic, I feel for you, but don't forget all that rain you've been getting before this little inundation, lol.   Tony

I took a walk today in E Cobb for the first time in about six days. The dirt trails were a little muddy in a lot of spots but it was still walkable with few puddles thank goodness. It is a totally different world vs. the drought years. I wouldn't mind some break to dry things out some, but more rain is on the way. I can't even remember this wet of a spell in Atlanta.

I've now surpassed 6 inches of rainfall for July, and I've had significant rainfall for each day but the 1st when I had only 0.01 inch register in the gauge.  After more than 11 inches in June, my ground is thoroughly saturated.  Who would have thought, but my grass is suffering from too much rainfall?!  I'm developing brown patch in the yard due to the wet soil conditions fostering fungus growth.  I guess I could use a couple of days of full sunshine to dry it out a bit, but I'm not sure that's really likely to happen.  Anyway, I'd much rather have this excessive rainfall than the dry parched conditions of summers gone by.

Ended up with a total of 15.08" "storm" total (which conveniently is the July month total so far). Maximum daily rainfall was 3.48" in the last week with several days of 3"+.

We didn't buy a house with stream-front property, but we've got one now!

Since Wednesday we accumulated 8.3" of rain here in Oconee with higher amounts in the northern mountains toward the border.  We doubled GSP and other areas in the upstate.

sweet!  thats a boatload of rain lol.  there were a couple of monster downpours/storms that missed mby just to the east - you were probably under those.  friend in toccoa was also in them and said it just poured and poured

The army corp of engineers opened the flood gates on lake Hartwell this morning. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard of them having to do that.  Lake Hartwell is currently almost 5 feet above full pool!

This is amazing (I used to live on Lake Keowee) - for those that are not local, Lakes Hartwell, Keowee, and Jocassee are some of the biggest man-made lakes/reservoirs in the country. Among all three, Lake Hartwell is the worst aesthetically (IMO) due to significant fluctuations in lake levels from rainfall/drought. I've lived in the Upstate nearly a decade and cannot recall Lake Hartwell ever having a full pool during a summer - in fact, I drove to Turner Field 2 weeks ago, passing Lake Hartwell on I-85, and the lake looked incredible - I'd imagine property values on the lake have gone up recently LOL.

Side note: Lakes Keowee and Jocassee (both north of Hartwell) offer incredible views of the SC/NC mountains. These two lakes are pristine, clear, and often blue on cloudless days.

Brad P tweeted that Fontana Dam spilled at its second highest rate ever yesterday. Thats insane. Thats a ton of water. Good Luck down there to you all if Chantal affects ya.

I'm still in awe over all of the water    I've never seen water on the other side of the Timmerman trail that runs next to the Congaree river until yesterday.  Small streams that have been dry for over a decade are now running higher than I can remember. 29 times out of the past 38 days CAE has recorded at least a trace of rain and I'm enjoying every minute of it

Received an unwelcome deluge of rain last night to top off the mud...a whopping 3.21" bringing the total to 11.51" since July 3rd. Maybe we get lucky today and dodge the downpours. As burrel indicated I have seen some crazy pictures of Lake Hartwell releasing water through the flood gates today. amazing considering in November it was 16 feet below full pond now being 4 feet above!

I am closer to Dr. Franklin in geography, but the upstate has been inundated.  I'm at 10.2 since July 1st. I have used a quickly fashioned gondola for 2 weeks. Come on!

I've received 7.37 inches of rain in the past 7 days. Live just south of downtown Greenville, SC.

Intense thunderstorm dumped 1.63 inches in about 1 hour this evening. Amazing summer...

Another sidenote: It is also one of the main reasons not to rely on lake levels to diagnose droughts.  The number of people who have used the "Lake Criteria" in the past 3 years to conclude that we were in a drought is astonishing. The actual drought surface area was much smaller than implied.  Back to the topic...I cannae remember ever having such a train of rainy weather as is currently unfolding.  Honestly, going back to December, I have been well watered.

We are getting pounded by a pop up tstorm right now. Torrential rain, really bad lightning,& gusty winds. Just what we don't need right now....esp with what some of the computer models are showing for Chantal.

Me too, now.  But, without the rains.  I have been privy to one of the most awesome displays of lightning that I have ever seen for the past 20 minutes.  There has been lightning on all sides.  I believe a bolt actually struck in the woods a street or two over.  That created the most incredibly loud boom.  Somehow, I still have power, and I'm just hearing the first drops of rain.  This is amazing!!

Ditto. Though I do love a good evening storm in the summer.
