We've had off and on rain here in the Bronx from the departing coastal but not amounting to much. Another cool day in this dramatic turn around following the heat wave as it's 75F in Central Park at 3pm with skies partly cloudy there and overcast here in Pelham Bay to the northeast. We haven't hit 80F several times this week...

Cool show on the weather channel "Weather that changed the World"

- Apparently there was a tornado (Ef3) in D.C. which killed 35 British troops, during the occupation of the city in the War of 1812. This played big a role in the British army leaving the city.

- I'm a history buff and I had no idea about this, really cool stuff

"August 25, 1814 in the early afternoon, a strong tornado struck northwest Washington and downtown. The severe  tornadic storm arrived the day that the British Troops had set fire to the Capitol, the White house and other public buildings. The storm's rains would douse those fires. The tornado did major structural damage to the residential section of the city. More British soldiers were killed by the tornado's flying debris than by the guns of the American resistance.  The tornado blew off roofs and carried them high up into the air, knocked down chimneys and fences and damaged numerous homes. Some homes were destroyed. It lifted two pieces of cannon and deposited them several yards away. At least 30 Americans were killed or injured in the heavily damaged buildings and an unknown number of British were killed and injured"

- Lol that must have put the fear of God into them

Im really pissed off by the NWS drought monitor having the South Shore of Long Island in a no drought color.

We had zilch zero rain yesterday!!!!! In the last 2 months we have had less then 2 inches!!! During maximum solar inclination and the heat of 2 weeks ago that equals extremly low soil moisture. Granted we got dumped on in May but trees here are now dropping leaves...

I have seen this before (in the late 90's and again mid 2000's) It has something to due with the seabreeze but the true cause is a combination of things and really some bad luck on  days like yesterday...

Any of the other South Shore guys feeling this?

It has been a very dry July right along the South Shore. Gilgo Beach has only picked up 1.14" and Bellmore 1.45".

I have 3.29 this month in southern queens, with summer convection its not uncommon to see large differences a few miles away.

This is the fourth July in a row of below normal rainfall at JFK with all the heat we have been experiencing. The

last really active July at JFK was back in 2007 when JFK picked up 5.29".
