Well, it's 2013 and the Central Park thermometer is still coveted under thick shrubs, so apparently you might be asking for too much.

Central Park's temp is higher then LGA so far. So at least for today, no issues.

I expect LGA though to make a late day jump and surpass all stations, including EWR and JFK. It's been happening all month. LGA is the new EWR.

FOK might beat the park... how many times has that happened?

Heard of some reports on some news outlet warning against the longest heatwave in NYC in almost a decade.  They failed to mention that many have had 7 straight days at 90 just last week, nevermind the last decade in the metro area.  Also they seemed to miss the heat from 2012, 2011, 2010, 2006, 2005 to mention a few where almost all sites had 7 or more days and in some years on numerous occassions.

That's like what they did back in January with the cold snap when they said it was one of the coldest weeks on record when it was not even close. Too much misinformation.

Heatwave criteria should be raised IMO. 90 is just not hot enough. It's way too easy to hit 90.

Hot and humid in mid July? I'm shocked. Any records broken?

93 degrees in NYC today, only 8 above normal.

But 74 degrees in Dallas Texas, one degree off coldest high temp in July ever, nearly 25 below normal.

Now that's impressive!

Sounds like you wont be impressed unless its 100 or higher (perhaps wed - sat).  The not so impressive warmth north of DC to New England has most sites at a mediocre +3 to +5  for the month with the hottest temps yet to occur during the hottest time of year.  A year without summer for sure....

Well to be honest it's not like they had an unusually cold airmass. They've had a storm system over them depressing the highs.
