My heat index hit 106 today...bad move...

Yeah, the HI's got pretty high out here, low to mid 100's. Tomorrow appears to be a bit drier with drier mid levels and mixing during the day might drop our dews into the mid and upper 60's.

4km NAM brings the city to 100 on Thursday.

That would mean Newark and LGA would top off between 103 and 104 which I don't see happening. That 4km NAM has been off for a long stretch now.

The 0z Euro has 850mb temps near 20C with WNW winds over NYC metro on Thursday. Not much different from 4km NAM.

Euro has 19.9c for Thursday. 20.1 for Friday and also 19.0 for Saturday.

The immediate South Shore beaches are the hottest this hour with a northerly offshore flow.

Gilgo is already up to 87.7.

That station sits in the sun at points of the day, particularly the morning. I prefer to use the MADIS station at Robert Moses, which is much cooler than that one.

19C to 20C doesn't sound that hot too me, at least not for people saying we'll cracking 100.

We probably won't make >100F with 850s of only 19-20C, especially with the potential for some convection and cloud debris. I'd think we'd need 850s of around 21-22C to have a chance for 100F or more in Central Park especially with clouds around.

When Central Park hit 104F on July 22, 2011, 850mb temperatures were 297K or 24C, as shown by this graphic:

The Gilgo Station ran within a degree of of my old station in Long Beach on these warm summer offshore flow days. IMHO

the most accurate South Shore barrier beach station on Long Island. Take a  look at the hourly OBS with

FOK and JFK running warmer than FRG-ISP.

I'm not sure. At the time, it was 88 degrees, one of the warmest stations anywhere. The wind is still coming off cool water which should cool the air a couple degrees. The MADIS station at the Coast Guard station on Fire Island, IMHO, is more accurate. There was a station on Fire Island called Fire Island Pines, which I have to say was very accurate as well, it's no longer running anymore though. The Gilgo station often has spikes in temperatures that are not caused by a change in wind direction. Here is the Gilgo station on a day last year with NW wind, temps in the 100's.

It's probably fixed now but who knows. That's why I wasn't really buying it's 88 degree reading earlier.

11AM here's where we were at, at 11.  The old rule add 10 to the 10 AM (EST) temps may be too high.  Add 7

I think NYC is going to fall a little short of expectations today. I would think it tops out at 92 or 93. We shall see. Friday & Saturday may be the two days that temperatures are hotter than expected.
