I got relatives up in west central WI. It was only in the low 50s up there today, and last night they were 44 degrees.

Why is is so damn cold up there in late July? Is this normal?

The screwy jet stream is why it's so chilly lately. Flow is coming from the Hudson Bay region. Edit: 50s are definitely not normal in central WI at time in the summer for summer highs. 40s are a bit out of the normal for lows until you get towards late August.

Picked up 0.16" of rain today, which puts me at EXACTLY 7.00" for July.

DTW has a decent chance at setting a record low max Sunday. The record is 68F, and though MOS shows 69F and the NWS forecast shows 70F, if it is indeed a mostly cloudy day, you can say hello to a new record. If we do miss the record, it will VERY likely be the 2nd coldest July 28th on record for Detroit. Records began in 1874.

Should have no problem breaking the record low of 52° today. Already 54° at 12am.

Looks like the core of the cold air aloft is heading straight towards the area from the NW with some showers in tow.

Yeah those clouds should keep temps from getting too out of hand tonight.  Down to 53 here, but about to start clouding up.  Now looks like 40s are out.

Downriver has crushed my backyard this month...seems like tons of training storms over first 2 county tiers.

There's a co-op observer a few miles from me and I searched his temps for the past 3 years and N Mich usually sees 40's for lows 2-3 times each July, but nothing close to the 8 days I have so far this year. Have only had 3 weeks of what I'd call real Summer weather.

Of course I have the windows open, but I woke up with the covers up to my nose. Awesome sleeping weather in late July...free AC always appreciated.

I'm somewhat seriously considering ditching the shorts and going pants for the golf outing I'm playing in today.

2nd best storm of the season came through late yesterday (6:30pm-7:00pm). A lot more thunder/lightning this time around. Winds were a little less strong compared to the storm last Friday, but there was even more hail mixed in this time around.

The AWOS at Detroit City Airport officially clocked winds of around 40 MPH.

And the power did go back out for about 5 seconds, then it popped back on.

Well the low at DTW was 52F this morning, actually a touch cooler than expected, and good for 2nd coldest low on July 28th, behind 48F in 1978. I always get slightly aggravated when I see all the record low temps from the mid-1960s through the early 1980s at DTW because of the ridiculous ratiational cooling  magnet they were. Think of ARB today...and that was DTW back in the mid-1960 through at LEAST 1980. Nearly always THE coldest spot in SE MI during a night with any conditions for rad cooling.

For example, the low at DET this morning was also 52F. What was the low at DET on July 28, 1978? 57F. In fact DTW managed to log FIVE mornings in the 40s in July 1978, whereas at DET the coldest temp that July was 52F. (on the flip side....DTW logged 7 days of 90F+ in July 1978, but DET had just 3....most astounding was July 26th when DTW soared to 96F but DETs high was 81F, presumably had to do with flow off the water). Rain is rain and snow is snow, but its crazy to see how temperature records are completely at the mercy of not only the location they are being recorded, but also the time in history they are being recording regarding the surrounding environment.

Anyway...heres a pic of a rainbow I took yesterday around 730pm
