Hello drought pretty soon after this invigorating dry frontal passage.  Glad this week is over.  Not a drop of rain and 90F temps every week.

Are you serious with this? MKE has had 6.40" of rain since June 1st and 25.91" since the beginning of the year both of which are above normal. Please think before posting such nonsense.

AC will have to stay on tonight for sure. 74/70 outside right now.

I was talking to saukville the other day (cromartie/bananaboy)...he said he still hadn't turned his AC on and that it was 95F in his living room.

I said my kids had blankets over them and it was 72F in mine...    I handle the extreme cold better then i do this extreme humidity/heat.

Wow! Did he turn his living room into a greenhouse now! haha. Warmest I like it in my living room is about 74°. Between October and April the house is usually around 67-68°.

AC is still on, but it's gotten a break somewhat. Hopefully tonight and tomorrow I can shut it off, before it goes back on Monday.

Backdoor cold front moved through MKE, temp down to 73. Still hanging on to 83  at RAC

Sweet! Can't wait.

Front showing up nicely. Even a t-shower popped up in Ozaukee Co.

Heat wave wrap up here:

16th: 91/73

17th: 92/75

18th: 94/75

19th: 95/75

Peak dewpoint about 75°.

Now there has been a 100° span in temperatures this year.

The storms dropped 0.73" of rain imby last night. Gusty winds but no damage, and tons of lightning. Actually earlier in the evening when a severe storm JUST missed me to the south the sky was lit up in constant, and I mean CONSTANT lightning, despite no rain falling. Pretty cool.

So the 0.73" puts mby at 6.42" for July, and add the 6.34" in June, and MET summer is already at 12.76" and its only July 20th!!! The Wyandotte station on wunderground is at 6.93" for July after 6.10" in June.

DTW has been avoiding the worst of storms/rain like the plague this month. Its funny to say "avoiding like the plague" when they are above normal, but they sit at I believe just 3.33" for July (after 6.01" in June, their MET summer is still well over 9" already, so nothing to shake a stick at, but much drier than me so close by).

granted, it's an anomaly change....but the soil moisture content has undergone some stripping west of the lakes...

Shorter term drought talk is not really all that crazy of chatter in my opinion.  Clearly reservoirs were filled pretty well over the course of spring and early summer, but the actual soil content outside of these reservoirs is not that spectacular right now.  Sure, precip totals may look dandy west of the lakes over the last 3+ months...but how much of that fell during heavy convectively induced downpours?  A decent portion of the areas rainfall most likely ran-off before it had toooooo much of a chance to soak into the ground.

Last year featured extreme short term and longer term droughts.  I have little concern for longer term droughts for most of the area here.....but again, the cracks in my lawn are getting bigger and bigger each day and getting an inch and a half of rain in 60 minutes won't do the trick....1.5 inches for the rain gauge and only half an inch for the soil....

I'm currently driving to the Twin Cities and hit one of those cells near Madison. Only rained for about 10 minutes but it was intense. Cumulus building all over southern Wisconsin

They looked pretty intense.

Down to 71° now. Feels like a whole new season!

urban heat island have an effect on the progression of the lake breeze through central cook?....translating on a late arrival into dupage?  interesting....

attachicon.gifWUNIDS_map.gif

Well I know here there was a light lake breeze before the main slug of cooler air aimed down the lake from the northeast. What your seeing is two different marine air masses outlined by the NW to SE lake breeze front and the N to S boundary.

That cell in McHenry County looks intense. Can see the cloud tops from here clearly.
