snowguy
If this turns out to be the final solution, the GFS will have taken the Euro to school. GFS had just off the coast or OTS for how many runs now? And we thought something was wrong with the GFS but now it could be the other way around. First GM wins car of the year, now the GFS is outperforming the EURO. Is this really America?
kurtstack
EURO will be discounted for the rest of the season. Someone needs to get to work on it! It got it's nickname "Dr. NO" because it always said no to big east coast storms when the GFS was claiming blizzard. This year it seems like the rolls have been reversed. Sometimes you can tweak a model too much and that might be what happened with the Euro now that it seems to overphase everything.
Ian
Hopefully, it will put to rest the vast superiority of the euro assuming the euro moe east is permanent. If so, then the rumbling I heard about the GFS overphasing lows here and in Europe may have validity. If so, the best game in town will be the ensembles from the various models as they have pointed towards a more out to sea look than the operational. I feel silly because I was SURE the EURO was wrong on Tuesday but I started to fall for it yesterday. It will be interesting to see if we get more phantom blizzards like this (and it's already done it on previous storms) over the rest of the winter. weathercoins
If I can wake up Monday and have everything covered in white, regardless of if this is two or three inches, my disappointment will be tempered considerably. I go to israel for a month on weds, but something tells me I won't be missing much.
bmorelights
It was hard not to with as consistent as it was being. It was consistent right till the SW came onshore. Then it was like "oh wait guys just kidding." A clear deficiency in the Euro. I wonder if it had better handling for that sort of feature what it would have shown 4-5 days out... Ian
now people will swing the other way probably.. the euro is still the best model most likely. they all have their issues... though i'd be wary if we see this again this winter on the euro for sure. stormtracker
Kudos to the GFS and American models if this holds. They told the Euro to go eff itself and its consistency. People sh*t on the GFS far too much around here. Tell me you weren't unnerved that the GFS didn't have this even when the Euro did for multiple runs. Snowpocalypse
Now I need a stiff drink.all my hopes were hinged on the euro sniffing out a new trend.Looks like there will be a monstrous no-storm this weekend instead.record breaking amounts of no could fall. Yup I think i'll have a few Moscow Mules to get this debacle off my mind, temporarily.
Wonderdog
5 of 12 GFS 12z ensembles give DC .10 to.50 qpf, if I read them correctly. Five out of twelve ain't bad. Forget the Euro.
