Some thunder ongoing with a little light rain. That cell south and west of MHT looks like it's heading ever so slowly toward CON so I'm hoping to get a little action in a bit here. Suppose we could always vinatieri it here too though.

Looks are somewhat deceiving. I'm literally on the edge of the red pixels and I keep drifting in and out... 20 second super downpours then sudden stops.

The super-res radar images come in handy when you're on the edge.

That's been the story of my afternoon. Tilton and Franklin have been nailed while I'm in the screw zone.

Seem to have been jam scammed here wrt that healthy looking storm that was off to the south. One half going to the north the other to the south. At least there's been a very nice breeze to go along with the -ra and occasional thunder.

A chance of rain today in the mountains, but upon waking there was blue skies and nothing upstream on radar so off to the Whites I went.   I chose a lower elevation hike to Zealand Notch.  There are a number of interesting views to be had in the area ... beaver-dammed ponds, Zealand Falls and Thoreau Falls, Zeacliff outlook and Whitewall Mountain chief among them.  Not much in the way of drama this week.   I measured temperature at 72F above Zealand Hut at around 3000' at 11:00am, so it was warm but not like the Bataan Death March or anything like that.  Dews seemed pretty comfortable as well.  Not to say the sweat towel didn't get a workout, of course.

So, I arrived at the Zeacliff outlook and was rewarded with what is one of the more amazing views of the Pemigewasset Wilderness.  I had been through this area once before, but it was in the pre-dawn hours.  Glad I came back!

After taking in the views and having a snack on the cliffs, I took the Zeacliff Trail down a very steep grade into Zealand Notch and Ethan Pond Trail, in itself a wonderful destination.

I took the Ethan Pond Trail to Thoreau Falls, which offers a terrific view over to Mount Bond from the head of the falls.  And with all of the recent rain, the falls were ripping.

The rain held off, thankfully.  A nice, tidy 11 mile walk through the woods with many interesting things to look at.   :)

Luckily our drought broke about an hour ago. Been steady light rain since.

I finally got around to emptying the rain gauge this morning . 2.75 inches since Tuesday evening and 4 inches since I put it in last Sunday night.

No rain so far today! Wow this might be the first rain free day in like a week.

Well, that’ll always be the dream:

Anyway, it really was quite nice today, we had a long enough period without rain that I got a lot of mowing done on dry grass.  It’s actually been almost two weeks since I last mowed, and despite all the rain, the grass wasn’t all that long and the mowing could have waited if necessary.  It certainly wasn’t for lack of water, but perhaps sunlight?  Growth in general does seem to be slowing down though after the initial spring surge.  We’re closing in on a foot of rain for the month here at the house, and although it doesn’t look like tonight’s rain will quite get it to that point, it’s already the wettest month I have in my records by over two inches.

I went downtown to where the core of that purple cell passed over and it must have been pretty good... road was littered with twigs and leaves. A few big branches were down by dairy queen.

Spent almost 3 hours this evening getting a big dose of antibiotics after finding a fully engorged tick on me for the first time ever.  I used to gloat about how good I was at getting them removed well within the 24 hour safety window, but I finally failed.

BTV with 0.27" this evening...not sure they can get another tenth to break the record! Ouch that is so close to wettest June on record. Would be nice to set back-to-back wettest months on record...not sure what the chance of repeating that would be, especially with a like almost 130 year data period.
