powderfreak
Decent slug of rain moving almost due north up the Spine. Raining pretty hard now in Stowe.
J.Spin
Today's not looking to be that bad of a day... I was thinking more rain earlier but only a few sprinkles so far. It turned out to be quite nice, not perfectly clear like yesterday, but once I saw the radar it looked like we’d have all afternoon for outdoor stuff, so we got in another MTB ride today. Boy was yesterday’s weather fantastic though! We’re starting to catch up on all the stuff that’s been too wet or closed the past several weeks; dry trails and a taste of early fall weather: I guess we paid our dues with all that soppy weather, but it essentially feels like we’re stealing a bonus couple of weeks here, right out from under July’s nose – the 70s F look to sail right into August, and whatever happens after that, even the warmest stuff in August has never got the bite of July up here. So in that regard, one could say that summer’s back has been broken like you mentioned in the Wx Discussion thread. We’re well past climatological peak now in NNE anyway: http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/21781-climatological-peak-dates/page-1#entry825644 The cold can take it’s sweet time if we’re going to have weather like this weekend. The timing of the precipitation did work out well though today in terms of coming after sunset, now we appear to be on the night train:
powderfreak
We're running 1"/hr based on radar and MVL obs of 1/4" in 15 minutes...radar showing 0.5-0.8" in the last hour and the train continues to roll from J.Spin up through this area. Will be interesting to see if we top 1" tonight.
MaineJayhawk
I was expecting a potentially crappy day yesterday in the mountains, but with every forecast the rain chances were pushed further and further back until sometime in the afternoon. So, in order to maximize time I once again got up wicked early and enjoyed sunrise deep in the Whites. During my sufferfest of last week, I passed by an interesting ridge that I thought would pack amazing views, so I made plans to visit it this week. At the same time I decided to also visit the adjacent ravine and, while I was there, summit Mts Adams and Madison again. So, boots were on trail at just after 4am, headlight shining away merrily. I opted to hit King Ravine first, because going up a ravine is safer than going down. Aso, I hoped that I would time it well enough to get the early morning light as I entered the open part of the ravine floor. Luckily I did. Going up the ravine wall was a lot of fun ... all sorts of climbing over house-sized boulders and grabbing tree limbs for support. Good stuff. I popped out on Durand Ridge and made my way up to Mount Adams. It was a beautiful morning in the 50s with a fairly light wind. Some clouds, but nothing like I was expecting. As I rock-hopped my way up Mt Adams I noticed a bank of clouds to my left that were about to overtake Mt Madison. In short time, they did. I was bummed out because I feared the clouds would stay. To the west, Mt Jefferson was still in the clear, but I didnt want to go over there. I sat at the summit of Adams (53F, 16mph wind. NICE!) watching the clouds on Madison. It was really interesting watching them roll out of the Great Gulf up and over Mt Madison. After a short time the clouds parted, revealing J.Q. Adams, Madison and Star Lake. Seeing the clouds roll away gave me hope that I wouldn't spend a big chunk of this adventure in gray air, so I headed down Adams and made my way to Madison. The clouds came back and I was in fog for most of the way to Star Lake. Oh well. I chose to take a trail to the opposite side of Madison before ascending to the summit. On the way over, the sun broke out. I looked back and saw that the clouds had parted enough to see the summits. I ascended Madison (56F, 5mph wind), then went to the Madison Springs Hut to take a breather and replenish my water supply. They had free leftover pancakes from breakfast but I passed. I headed out and made my way back to Durand Ridge for my descent back to civilization. Along the way I passed the junction where I had popped out of King Ravine. On the way out I passed by Salmacis Falls - a nice place to take off the boots and dip tired feet. A pleasant walk out of the woods this time and a very nice day in the end. I stopped for lunch in Gorham and on the drive through Pinkham Notch the clouds lowered and grew a dark angry gray. Some rain fell and I felt fortunate to have the weather that I did. powderfreak
1.98" overnight...quite the soaker! I see that Hyde Park just off to my NNE had 2.40", Derby up near the boarder came in with 2.6", and JSpin with 2.24". I'm up to 8.70" now for July. tamarack
As expected, two days of clouds have produced only light precip here, 0.06", the kind of wx that would frustrate gardeners were the summer not so wet already. And the kind that still frustrates farmers trying to get in their hay crop.

OceanStWx
I have a few buddies up that way but they are not posters, One is a Met for the USAF though stationed in Greenland Well if they know of anything that happened with that storm between Turner and Crocker Ponds that would be great. It died before 201, and I'm not sure who maintains the logging roads up that way.

eekuasepinniW
Pretty mean looking out there now. I really hate this type of sidewinder cell. Can't really figure out if the tail end has enough eastward movement to clip me.
dendrite
Pretty mean looking out there now. I really hate this type of sidewinder cell. Can't really figure out if the tail end has enough eastward movement to clip me. I can see the cumulus to the SW of the line forming just to my west. Maybe we can get those training cells to form a bit more to the south to clip us. I'm running out of time. I've heard a few loud rumbles though. eekuasepinniW
Think I just watched the fastest birth and death of a cell ever. Small darker area to the west suddenly spat out about 10 nice flashes of lightning and then abruptly stopped. It's rather brisk now... down to 71. tamarack
Well if they know of anything that happened with that storm between Turner and Crocker Ponds that would be great. It died before 201, and I'm not sure who maintains the logging roads up that way. IIRC, that's John Malone's "Frontier Forest", and may be managed by Landvest. If not, it's probably Wagner as manager. However, the Holeb Road is the main woods highway in that area, and is a major route not just for Frontier Forest but for the state lands on Holeb Twp and the Passamaquoddy acreage on Holeb and Lowelltown. If I hear anything from our West Region office, I'll pass it along.

It's definitely going to be on or very close to Holeb Road.

wxeyeNH
Well...well...well. I have complained all summer about missing every thunderstorm possible. All things even out. As I have said I am in the middle of a $45,000 landscaping project as last year we had to lift and move our house 25 feet and construct a new foundation. We hydroseeded the front on June 6th and it has come in well although I have had to do a lot of watering as you all know I missed most storms. Today the graders came and laid all the topsoil in the back area to get ready to hydroseed this week. 4 dump trucks worth! I watched the radar carefully and at midday not much but a few showers to the west. At 2pm everything was graded and raked awaiting the hydroseeding. The line of storms was also intensifying to my west at the same time. We know where this is all leading to. Heavy slow moving thunderstorm which dumped a quick 1.25" on me. The back yard quickly flooded and much of my new topsoil in now down in my pond. My landscapers had just left and has not returned my call. Who pays for this? Anyhow by far the best storm and most rain of the summer coming at the exact wrong time! A few pics attached...
