powderfreak
0.58" this evening, nothing too big except about 2-minutes of excitement in the second storm.
eekuasepinniW
Been sitting in the pool watching lots of lightning crawling around inside a puffy white cloud to the northwest... quite picturesque.
eekuasepinniW
Just phenomenal lightning in this second round of storms... ended up going down to the beach for a clear view to the east.
dendrite
Nice pics Scott. No bolts really visible here until the end, but it certainly looked active up there. Min 69F. It'll depend on clouds, but we should flirt with 90F again.

tamarack
Outstanding light show, best here in 5-6 yr at least. Several close shots as the storm passed overhead, two with just over a second delay, and one near instantaneous flash-bang. Once the on-top-of-me stuff ended, I watched from the porch and estimated 30-40 strikes/min (tto dark to read my watch), many being multiple flashes. Rarely went 5 seconds without a flash. Oddly, in 10 minutes of that I never saw a bolt, and with only -RA during that time so not precip-obscured. Maybe heavy to cloud-cloud? Though wind was forecast as the main svr threat, there was next to none at my place - doubt it gusted to 15 mph. Rain was modest, too, never torrential and 0.32" in the gauge this morning. Only the first act??
klw
Well I cleared 3.46 inches from the rain gauge this morning. Nice channel cleared down the middle of the driveway. The odd thing is that Davis station about 200 yards away only shows 1.48 inches for yesterday. That station goes offline from time to time and its rainfall rate from last night's storms seemed to really downplay all but the first storm. My rain gauge is an old school plastic tapered tube which I have had up the past month. I haven't had any reason to doubt its accuracy. Here is the link to the Davis station: http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KVTPEACH2

Allenson
Caught two rounds of storms here last night--and to echo others, quite a display of lighting and incredibly loud thunder. The dog was a basket case. Picked up 0.51" out of the two cells and had a couple decent puffs of wind. Now I don't have to water the garden tonight. MaineJayhawk
The *crack* I heard over the din of wind and thunder last night was indeed a limb coming down. It landed on the driveway. 3" diameter, about 12' long. No worries, there's many to spare here. Interested in further bouts over the next few days. wxeyeNH
I was reading all the posts about lightning last night and it brought back some memories. Im 56 years old and as a kid I grew up in Maryland. Lots of PM storms. In the late 1960's, early 70's there was no weather radar to speak of and obs were only once an hour from the reporting stations. So you never knew what was heading your way. My method as a kid weather nerd was to put the AM dial to 530. I would listen for the static signature of lightning. My term was SPM (statics per minute). Depending on the amount I could determine how many storms were out there. I would set the volume at a certain level and if they were getting louder I knew they were inbound to some degree. I was friendly with Bob Turk who had just started out for WJZ TV as the weather guy. He would call me around 5:45pm before the 6pm news since I lived NW of the city. I would report if I saw building CuB to the west and he would use that for short term shower/Tstorm forecasting. Back then you were really "in the dark". So different that today. Looking forward to more storms between today and Saturday. Gene
dryslot
I guess we may want to keep an eye out later, Cells are already firing........ .NEAR TERM /TODAY/...1245PM UPDATE...SEA BREEZE HAS MOVED ONSHORE AND IS VISIBLE ON RADAR. ANOTHER NORTHTO SOUTH ORIENTED BOUNDARY OVER FAR SOUTHWEST MAINE IS ALSO VISIBLEAND ALREADY GENERATING WEAK CONVECTION. EXPECT SCATTERED SHOWERS ANDSTORMS TO FORM ON THESE BOUNDARIES THIS AFTERNOON. MEANWHILE...ADDITIONAL CONVECTION WILL DEVELOP OVER THE ADIRONDACKS IN UPSTATENEW YORK AND MOVE EASTWARD WITH THE UPPER LEVEL FLOW. THISCONVECTION MAY BE THE MOST LIKELY TO BECOME SEVERE AS SPEED SHEARWILL BE SUFFICIENT FOR SUPERCELLS OR MULTICELL CLUSTERS.
