Finished with 0.92" yesterday.  Already another 0.87" for the day today.

Quite a bit of ponding on the roads out there too.  In fact, I'd call it a surprising amount of water for only 0.87" of rain.

Edit: Area where I just was has ~1.60" on 1-hour rain according to radar, so that makes more sense.

Lot of stuff going on in this thread: marriage, baby, snow in august, ice age winter pending, drencho, dust bowl to swap for red and Elko weather, so cool.

I like "drencho" instead of "derecho".  It looks like it will be dry for at least the next 4 days - but hot.

Congrats to Adam on his upcoming wedding.  My wife and I will be celebrating our 12 year wedding anniversary one day later (July 21).

Your not kidding Andy. Add to that there is some kind of biblical frog invasion happening most likely due to the rain. Sounded like the lousiiana bayou last night driving locally

I've got a question for those who frequent higher elevations in the summer. I'd like to take my 9 and 10 year old kids hiking to some peaks at Catoctin Mountain on Friday. The change in elevation on the trails is not very steep, but I'm worried about heat stress.

If, for example, it's 92 degrees with a dp of 67 to yield a heat index of 96 at Camp David (nearby) at about 750 ft, what would the conditions be at around 1500 ft?

Much obliged to anyone who knows!

Probably something like 88/66.  A heat index of about 90 or 91.

Whether it bothers them will depend partly on how acclimated they are to those conditions.  If they spend a lot of time playing outside, then they ought to be OK.  If they spend most time indoors in AC, then its gonna be an issue.
