E PA/NJ/DE/Okle: Banter/Non Storm OBS thread

Recommended Posts

well you should have a pretty good idea out on the course this morning, DP's are nasty right now, bet it's been awhile since we've had them in the upper 70's

most of the hot weather the past few yrs has been in conjunction with much lower DP's than we've experienced this summer

The course dp is 80 right now. I'm talking 82dp with 100 degree temps. While yest it got close to 100 the dp was "only" 74

So, I corrected my station's dewpoint -3F to better correlate with surrounding areas.  Currently, as I'm leaving for work at 8:41am, I have 87/78 (which is a CORRECTED reading), HI 99.

I think we make a run at 100F today.  Isn't the old rule of thumb if you make 90F by 11:00am you've got a shot?

I think it's 90 by 10:00 and/or 94 by Noon.  With it being so humid today, I don't know anyone sees 100 unless we quickly mix out some moisture over the next few hours.

combine that with the increase cumulus deck and everyone will probably be at what they saw yesterday temp wise

Here are PHL airport's 100+ days and the 10AM/Noon temps:

Adjusting for highs above 100, and the average is 88 at 10AM, 94 at noon.  Of course this doesn't include any days where it FAILED to reach 100, but you at least get the idea that if its at least 88 at 10AM, 94 at noon, there's a decent shot at 100.

what an awful severe season

I agree.

We've had only one...ONE...true thunderstorm, and it came in the overnight hours and I slept through it. Every other threat either didn't materialize or turned out to be nothing more than a heavy rain shower with no lightning/thunder.

Got really busy relaying weather reports for Skywarn for Camden County.  So, didn't even get a chance to post here.

Using GRLevel 3 radar, the tops on these storms got into the 50,000 foot range.  Tops on these storms were up to 52,000 feet at one point right over Lindenwold in Camden County. I didn't get much in the way of those strong damaging winds as reported below, but the lightning was incredible.

Here's the storm reports.

So, the storms finally break this heatwave.  Talk about going out with a big bang from these storms..

That's IT???   Break the heatwave?  It was 75 when I woke up at 5:15, the same as yesterday.  The sun looks like a thermonuclear reaction as it boils up in the sky.  I am a lover of heat and humidity, but this week broke me.  I have all this gardening and cooking and cleaning that I've been saving up for today.  And the sky is clearer than it was yesterday morning, so I assume temps will zoom up even faster.  I think the language around this should have been "will provide very slight relief" not "break the heatwave."

98->86-88 is relief...the humidity and dews of around 70 will be with us all week, but the heat won't

Yup its all relative not being in the high 90s with dew points in the mid to upper 70s feels better if not necessarily great. Wonder the last time Philadelphia had a dew point of less than 60 with a temperature less than 90.
