Holy sheet!! Wow, here in Dunwoody between 7:45 and 7:50, I experienced a very sudden gust of wind to 50-60 estimated followed by very heavy rain and more high winds and blinking power. Then pea sized hail started falling along with some CTG lightning. Subsequently, the power went out. I'm typing this on my phone. This was about as severe a storm windwise as I could recall seeing anywhere in at least several years, the first hail I've seen in probably at least 1-2 years, and the first wx related outage in probably at least 1-2 years.

The very high winds here in Dunwoody at 7:45-6 PM were about as sudden an increase as I can ever remember anywhere. Seconds before it was rather calm. There was no indication this was coming based on just looking outside. Due to the suddenness of these very high winds, it scared the living daylights out of me at that moment as I suddenly heard a very loud roar from the trees blowing. I now think that it is possible that those initial wind gusts were close to hurricane force though I don't see any downed trees right here. I'll probably go walking around soon to see if there's any sig. damage nearby. I do see that a very large pot with a small tree did blow over fwiw.

Still no power. Already getting stuffy in here with no AC.

Edit: I definitely didn't see a tornado right here, but that doesn't mean there couldn't have been one nearby.

What is with the ridiculously huge SVR warning triangles in NC right now? That line doesn't look very strong at all. Best storms are over North GA right now.

The larger than usual size of the warning areas is due to the faster than usual speed of the storms.

I love a good gust front.  Cools things off so well.  I've got maybe 20/25 mph gusts, some moderate heavy rain, some occasional lightening, and thunder all round, but not so much to get excited about.  Just enough time after leaving Hot town to cool it's self off, as well as me.  Even as I write the thunder is moving south, and the rain can be heard more clearly, being wafted about in the wind.  Cool is the word!  T

Still no power here in Dunwoody at the two hour point. Anyone else nearby w/o power or heard any indication of when the bulk of it will be returning in Dunwoody and vicinity? The underground wires in my area didn't help due I assume to a major outage away from here. I'm going to need to recharge my phone soon using my car. I still haven't eaten dinner lol. It is getting muggier inside. It has been years since I've been this affected by a tstorm anywhere.

I went walking nearby and saw some pretty heavy patio furnture blown over, including an umbrella covered metal table that detached from it's heavy base. I also saw a very heavy three foot wide pot that contained a tree that got blown over. I've never before seen that kind of damage in my immediate area. I also saw a pine tree whose branches got snapped. In addition, I saw some beautiful mammatus about an hour after the storm. When I get power back, I can save these pics to my PC and upload them here.

Even though you lost power your area's wiring being underground will still help you.  The last people to get power restored are the individual outages.  Whole neighborhoods are much higher on the power company's triage list.

Down here in ATL and ate dinner in Dunwoody at the Cheesecake Factory, I then drove north and was trying to go to the Publix off Mt Vernon Road but every single thing from roughly the Walmart/PF Changs N and E was completely out,  I did not see any power again until I reached Mt Vernon and Tilly Mill Road and that was mainly just on the main road, the side streets all appeared out.  Easily one of the most widespread outages I can ever recall seeing from a TSTM, it seems the only parts of town that are on are the ones with wires underground bordering 285 and 400.

Looks like we have some 1" hail coming our way.  On another note, the sky just a few minutes ago was breathtakingly gorgeous!

Thanks. That's good to hear and makes sense. I've got flounder and a baked potato to cook and I'm hungry. I'd rather not have junk food, and I don't even want to open the fridge to get fruit or a cold drink so I can keep it as cold as possible. Still no power at just about three hours! Though I'm not sure, this may be the longest wx related outage I've experienced since hurricane Opal of 1995. Then again, nothing compares to the four day long outage in Savannah from hurricane David in 1979.
