powderfreak
Stowe has been advertising a lot this week on NESN during Red Sox games... Boston is easily this area's biggest market (and Montreal). A lot of CT tends to go to southern VT resorts... from Boston its all interstate and can be done in 3 hours traffic permitting. But that's funny that you say that because I've watched NESN and almost every sox game over the past couple weeks and don't remember seeing one Stowe ad, lol. powderfreak
nzucker...........still think below normal month?Wasn't hard erasing the first two days of the month...up here at MVL we were +15.5 after the first two days. After yesterday it was down to +0.8....essentially normal for the month so far. The cold shot erased the record heat within a week. Oh and Montpelier/MPV is now -0.6 on the month. Could be below normal still at months end...who knows?

I would still favor finishing above average, but I would never say its a lock at this poimt, especially with no real sign of sustained heat making it into our region and some cooler shots mixed over the next week to 10 days. Yeah but the point is having a few big departures in the first 2-3 days of a month doesn't mean it's time to spike the football...those can be erased pretty quickly. I agree it may very well end up a little above normal but its not all about those first few days.

bobbutts
I'm right with you... I've lived in Stowe for over 3 years now and the difference between even here and a place like Burlington (also touristy but has a much larger year-round population) is something I've really come to like. Due to the tourists here there are tons of great places to eat, bars, live music, and just a lot more services (free bus route up and down through town) & stores than other similar sized VT towns. I mean this small village in rural Vermont has 3 different supermarkets (a Shaws, a no-name brand, and a health foods one). Living for a year in Jonesville/Richmond, VT which is a similar sized town but without a ski resort/tourist business...and it used to drive me crazy because the *only* store open past 8pm was a Cumberland Farms gas station. There wasn't even a bar or something and the restaurants were all dark by 8-9pm. I understand the folks that don't want to live in a tourist town as they don't want to deal with it, but I enjoy being able to live in the mountains, play outside everyday, see 150 inches of snow in the winter, AND still be able to go see some live music then get a late night meal at 10pm if I want. The tourists allow for mountain living but also with the conveniences of modern life...like great restaurants opened by chefs from NY or Boston looking to relocate to the country. You get performance arts centers with good acts and musicians, lots of art galleries, etc. I just always laugh when there's some comment about why folks don't live up north because they like to go out to dinner and a movie once in a while. Seems like Stowe is a pretty good balance. Something like Vail and it's all tourists and 1%'ers because no normal person can afford it there. Living in S. Lake Tahoe it wasn't super expensive, but the Casino tourism there is alot different vs. a regular Ski town and it wasn't a great balance there imo. Also helps Stowe I think to have BTV's services such a close drive away.

Typhoon Tip
A perfect weekend. Tremendous, let it rain all week and bring the heat and sun next weekend, what a pattern. Are you a philosopher? Yes, Yes ....................... I see zippo evidence for above normal temperatures for a long, long time. Things can change, of course... but for now, don't count on that heat and sun until there are some fundamental changes in the nature of the large scale circulation. I still see that as possible after mid month ...more like the last 10 days.
