Bottle this day up...  I'm feeling a little LL in me right now and feeling incredibly lucky to live right here, within 100 feet of this crystal clear mountain river.

Set-up a chair in the river or on the bank, and just sit there with a floating cooler on a hot day with views of the mountains.  Amazing how much the water has receeded in the past two days.  It is a quick response river, rising quickly when it rains up on Mansfield, but drains equally quickly.

Now back to its clear, placid state as it winds through town.

The 4,000ft ridge of the Spine is just visible above the trees to the west.

Nice photos guys!   Beautiful -- wish I had scene that.  It's interesting that only 20kt gate could produce such a proficient looking structure.  Conditions must have been just perfect.

It was 40 knots gate to gate... but yeah... wasn't particularly strong.

Some more cool pictures of the supercell over Newtown/Southbury CT yesterday

Unreal Ryan, thanks for putting the great summery together.

When was the last time you've seen a cloud structure like that in CT?

Just so amazing that it happened in Newtown on the 6 month anniversary of Sandy Hook...

I would have burnt a tank of gas to get a view of that one.

There was one on Aug 26, 1997, I believe that was the date. Came from Columbia/Dutchess Co into Sharon, CT. I took some video from the SE side of the rain free base where there was a small ratty wall cloud. If you scrub the video back and forth quickly you can clearly see that the whole base is rotating. I should of been on the West side where the whole updraft likely would have been visible.

Right? Me too. What was weird was that 2 of the other dying showers put together some incredible clouds. One was just an anvil that was floating south and looked incredible.

Yeah, I was in Vernon and got a nice view of the anvil at sunset, which was awesome.

How rare is it here in CT to see the sight in Newtown though?

Pretty unusual. Storms were really isolated and there was a nice overhanging top and the anvil was being blown SSE away from the storm.

Quite a bit of deep layer shear on Monday. With the front stalled nearby and 1000-1500 joules of CAPE we may be able to pull off some decent storms?

Yeah, I was looking at Monday too.  Noticed you posted earlier...looks decent, sneaky.
