WE GOT HIM
SPC has now put us in slight risk today (they didn't even have a discussion about us with the AM update)
Weathergun
Slight risk now from SPC. 15% for wind and hail for the entire area: ...NORTHERN MID ATLANTIC STATES INTO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND... INSTABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH STEEPER LAPSE RATES ACCOMPANYING THE WEAK MID-LEVEL COLD POOL SHIFTING EAST OF THE NORTH CENTRAL APPALACHIANS WILL ENHANCE CONVECTIVE POTENTIAL ACROSS THE REGION THIS AFTERNOON. THE ENVIRONMENT MAY STILL BE SOMEWHAT MARGINAL FOR SEVERE STORM DEVELOPMENT...BUT IF FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER IMPULSE CAN SUPPORT STORM CONSOLIDATION...ANY ASSOCIATED COLD POOL MAY BE ACCOMPANIED BY POTENTIALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS. Shades
I was under the development of the cell in Queens. It has ballooned into a formidable storm just to my east, in Flushing. Occasional claps of thunder and visible lightning. As it evolved overhead before progressing east, it seemed to be on the cusp of hail rather than rain, very large but infrequent rain drops. Shades
Found this interesting from the Upton's NWS facebook page: "The DREAMS project is currently using the Doppler on Wheels (DOW) to scan the developing storms over Queens and Nassau county. These storms have fired along the sea breeze boundary. One of our Meteorologists is with the research group today at Jacob Riis Park and has shared this photo with the Cumulonimbus cloud from the thunderstorm over LGA."
