I'm not a big fan of the wording of NWS forecasts these days.  In an effort to be more exact it often becomes more confusing. In my forecast for Monday below, is a thunderstorm definite after 11am?  I doubt it.  So why the distinction?  Or perhaps the added 's' means there is only the possibility of one thunderstorm before 11am but after 11am multiple thunderstorms will pound my area.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then showers and thunderstorms after 11am.

Yeah I prefer the 'zone' forecasts from the NWS...

So sad. Never thought the first chaser fatalities would be the TWISTEX crew. Bettes is probably thinking "why me" type stuff right now. Lots of chasers pretend to do it for research but most do it for the thrill/video captures. He was a true pioneer in twister research and him & crew will be missed. Sad for everyone involved, especially the Samaras family having lost both father & son.

I think that's what gets me.  TWISTEX didn't take crazy chances in the way that Reed and the Dominator crew, or Sean Casey's crew did (and obviously other chasers, too).  Of course, what they did was risky, but Tim and Carl never made it seem like they were doing it for the thrill - it was always about the research and getting their data as safely and thoroughly as possible.  From what it sounds like, the unpredictability of the direction the tornadoes were taking that day (and it sounds like the traffic situation too)...just wrong place and wrong time for those guys.  Just an awful situation.

We've all seen the weather channel's car after being rolled by the tornado.  Unfortunately for the chasers that died, their vehicle must have been picked up and slammed to the ground, probably more than once. Not much left.  Here's the photo.

This is the closest I have seen whales feed to the shore...this is up at Nags Head

So why did the swimmer decide to get in the whales' cage anyway? The whales were covering an area over a mile wide and wave wrapped. I guess not even the most experienced swimmers could predict the erratic whale motion that went on today.

Good lord. Oh my god. Very heartbreaking stuff to hear and see. Especially listening to all the people on TWC talk about it. Huge loss to the storm chasing community. They died doing something they loved best. Can't imagine what their families are going through.

Wow

Thanks for the info. I don't think it's well advertised or communicated, then. How are you supposed to know that from the message I posted in the screenshot? It doesn't instruct you to "go here" in order to sign up for the service. Oh well.

Yeah I didn't know that until I tried to look at the 12z Euro and the ensembles. I'm guessing it's because it's a very good website that lots of people use and it was free.

Lol^

They barely talk about weather on TWC that is currently ongoing. Just Mike Bettes sob stories and and live shots of a home that was damaged from an EF3 tornado. On TWC, the stories of the 3 storm chasers is worthy though. Great discussion going on in the weather forecasting and discussion thread with the death of the 3 chasers. . Storm chasing is dangerous. Don't even hear about Moore tornado anymore. If Mike bettes wasn't hit by a mile wide tornado, and the storm chasers didn't die, that day wouldn't have had any significance imo.

Your posts make my head hurt. You remind me of this kid on the AT&T commercials....
