Radar estimates of 5-6+ inches just south of here/I94. Finally got in one some better rainfall and thus the storm total is now up to 1.72 ( Monthly total was 1.67 and is now 3.39 ) which makes this the biggest event since early April. The month of May had only 1.64 for the whole month. Thus the rains are VERY welcome here. Grass etc was starting to get torched in a few spots.

Couldn't imagine a summer in Vegas or Phoenix...my neighbor has a  brother who lives out in Phoenix, says everyone just sits in the AC all the time...I guess its not much different then here on days like today...with the dp above 70F.

Dry heat is actually way different from what I've heard...most people would much rather have 110/50 than 95/77

I mean if your options are 10/50 than 95/77 you're screwed either way but 100+ is miserable no matter how dry it is.  I'll never forget the first time I flew into PHX, stepped out of the airport at 10 pm and felt like I was punched in the face from the heat...truly oppressive.

Had a similar experience except it was during peak heating. Remember the pilot saying it was 108F as we were approaching the airport.

When I was living in Oklahoma a couple years ago, we had that extreme heat wave where we hit 100+ 63 times. JJA average highs were 97, 103, 102.

The heat was insane, but I think what was more of a morale killer was waking up at 9am and seeing the temperature at 97 or 98 degrees already.

I'll take 80s/90s with high humidity over a summer like 2011 any year.

Leadville would be a bit crisp, with lows in the 40's every day.

Chigago guys:  I checked water.weather.gov for yesterday's precip. Did you guys get 5-6" in Northwest Chicago???

I was in Southern California in May during a Santa Ana wind event. It was 100 with a dewpoint of -10. Yes NEGATIVE 10. It didn't feel all that bad, especially with the breeze. Conversely, today here at the lakeshore in Cleveland it was 77 with a dewpoint of 70 and no wind ... that feels leaps and bounds worse/hotter than a 100/-10 with a breeze.

Lock this in!

FOR SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...PLAN ON COOLER/OVERALL DRIER
CONDITIONS AS A MAJOR MID-LEVEL TROUGH ESTABLISHES ITSELF OVER THE
CENTRAL CONUS WITH A HIGHLY AMPLIFIED RIDGE ACROSS THE WESTERN
CONUS. EC REMAINS DRY DESPITE COOLER CYCLONIC FLOW AND THE GFS IS
LIGHT AND SPOTTY WITH ITS QPF. LOOKS LIKE MAINLY SOME DAYTIME
CUMULUS BUT REMAINING DRY. OTHERWISE...HIGHS ARE EXPECTED TO BE IN
THE 75-80 DEGREE RANGE WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS MAINLY IN THE 50S...VERY
PLEASANT.

Picked up .30" of rain this morning. Up to 7.76" for the month.

Wow, you've had quite a more rain up there compared to here. 5.28" month to date.

Looks like 77° will be the high today.

---

105° in central OK is about the hottest temperature I've ever experienced.

I experienced temps near 110 in the Sacramento valley back in the 90s while on vacation.  It was awful, but I still think upper 90s with dews near 80 is untouchable.  The difference is in areas that experience upper 90s/80 dews only experience it for a day or two before at least some relief comes in.  Day after day of dry heat with temps above 100 would certainly get old in a hurry.

Hit 86 today with loads of humidity.

The short term afternoon forecaster at IND really worked hard on his disco today :P

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...

ISSUED AT 254 PM EDT WED JUN 26 2013

DIFFICULT FORECAST. GFS AND NAM BROADLY AGREE SHORT WAVES MOVING
ACROSS CWA WHILE WARM HUMID AIR PERSISTS. MODELS DIFFER IN DETAILS
WHICH WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN HOW CONVECTION DEVELOPS. THIS IN
TURN WILL AFFECT EVERYTHING ELSE. THINK CONSENSUS OF MET AND MAV
BEST FOR NOW TO CAPTURE STRENGTH OF BOTH.

IN OTHER WORDS...PARTLY CLOUDY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A PERSISTENT
CHANCE OF THUNDER. TEMPS A BIT BELOW NORMAL DAYS AND ABOVE NORMAL
NIGHTS WITH CLOUDS.
