Plains tornado threat Mon 5/27-Fri 5/31

True, but they are considered to be be "experts"... and two others who were hit by a satellite torado where also supposed to be really good at what they do and TWC interviews them a lot... so people can't just say its the run of the mill chasers being hit today.

Maybe these people are taking illegitimate chances to get "the shot" while the public is aroused by this weather stuff this week. Even people trying to get "data" might have pushed their luck. It was an incredibly huge circulation though.

That video is the single most idiotic chase video I have ever seen. I don't know if they were hit by the satellite tornado or what. The driver had NO idea what was going on and the other idiot didn't have a freaking seat belt on!!!

But point is that they should have died. Being that close to an extremely dangerous tornado is just signing yourself up for natural selection.

Dumb luck

I've found it best to watch those type of vids with the sound off.

The vortex footage at the beginning, before the shots changed to lots of panic, is lovely stuff with the cloud structure and dancing funnels.  He didn't need to zoom in as much as he did, tho.

The driver was either high or he is the calmest person I have ever seen because he barely had any reaction to the situation at all.  It's a shame, but I think the situation shown in that video will become more common and chasing is going to become dangerous because of other drivers, or it will become impossible because roads will be blocked at everyone opportunity by the police.  There's just too many yahoo's out there and it is destroying the hobby for people who just enjoy seeing storms.  I'm done with this topic though because it's somewhat depressing thinking about what the future of chasing is.

I wanna know what happened to that red vehicle that got tossed by them. I wasn't expecting to see that.

That guy might have been following them kinda close, saw they stopped suddenly, an swerved to avoid rear ending them. That's what it looked like to me.

I watched it again for the second time and I see that now. Still looks like they had a pretty rough ride, though.

The amount of chasers out there has gotten ridiculous, and I blame not only the Discovery Channel and The Weather Channel, but the new technology that has come out the past few years making it possible for nearly anyone to get radar data to their phone as well as shoot video from their phone. Yeah TWC and DC may say do not try this, but the fact is people do. It's not just chasers down there either. I was shocked at the number of people out during the Moore, OK tornado. That day there were multiple storms that helped disperse the chasers, but even back on the Moore storm, the chasers hordes were equal to the amount of gawkers and locals out there trying to get a picture, etc. Roads were clogged, people passing others on double yellow lines (ESPECIALLY NEWS CHANNELS AND THEIR CHASERS!), Funny thing was is that a cop was right behind him, and chased after him. To some extent, I gotta believe that the cops blocking roadways so people dont drive into the tornado are also causing some issues. Yes it blocks people from driving into the tornado that may cross the road, its also blocking other roads and making people turn around on a potentially clogged road. If that tornado makes any sudden change of course, people are screwed!

*end rant*

it goes to the obvious fact there is great danger chasing, i guess its easier almost always to point the finger, in the heat of the moment , many storm chasers today were caught in the cross hairs you think they All had a death wish today or that the inherent danger of chasing was on full display thanks to the satelite tornado's catching many off guard? Im personally glad they are safe and in awe of the footage, and i think overall today the satelite tor's were the primary reason chasers "look bad" today, and not the opinion that many "made decision to get closer than ever today and paid price". I.e this could have happend any day there were hundreds and hundreds of chasers out

I know the plains and midwest is tornado alley, but I don't ever recall two weeks of weather like this.

That's because it wasn't national news like this in years past. Although this has been an active period, I don't see anything extraordinary about it besides the 3 straight days of EF-4 + tornadoes. I think the total number of tornadoes is still very average for this time of year.

Neither can I, I'm used to a severe day here a severe day there, but not day after day/week after week like this. Hope we all catch a break for awhile. I know this isn't the right place, but what's the medium/long-range looking like to the board experts?

I'm not an expert, but I can say that the medium range is looking very quiet.

Agree, there have been lots of periods like this in the past.

Actually what's remarkable to me about this week is that there never actually was a genuine outbreak of multiple (more than a handful) long track strong tornadoes, even in a localized area.  You'd think things would have worked out somewhere for a while one of these days.
