GOES-E/GOES-13 UPDATE FROM NESDIS...

1150Z UPDATE#4: RECOVERY EFFORTS FOR GOES-13 CONTINUE AND THE
SPACECRAFT HEALTH AND SAFETY ARE NOMINAL.  GOES-14 IS BEING
ACTIVATED AND THE FIRST IMAGES WILL BE AVAILABLE AROUND 0500 UTC
ON THU MAY 23RD 2013.

1035Z UPDATE#3: INITIAL GOES-13 RECOVERY PROCEDURE WAS
UNSUCCESSFUL. RETURN TO SERVICE TIME LINE BEING REEVALUATED.

0840Z UPDATE#2: GOES-13 ANOMALY STATUS HAS NOT CHANGED, THE
ENGINEER TEAM IS COMMANDING THE SATELLITE AFTER CONSULTING THE
SUPPORT TEAM.  COMMANDING WILL TAKE APPROX. 5 HOURS AND IF
SUCCESSFUL SHOULD RETURN TO SERVICE SHORTLY AFTER THAT.

0630Z UPDATE#1: THE GOES-13 ANOMALY CONTINUES AND THE ENGINEERS
ARE ON SITE. BARRING FURTHER ANOMALIES THE EXPECTED RETURN TO
SERVICES IS APPROX. 14 HOURS FROM THIS UPDATE.

GOES-E/GOES-13 UPDATE FROM NESDIS...


1651Z - UPDATE#6:  GOES-13 HAS BEEN PLACED INTO STORAGE MODE
WHILE THE ANOMALY IS INVESTIGATED.  THERE IS NO NEW INFORMATION
AT THIS TIME.  GOES-14 IMAGING SHOULD BE AVAILABLE STARTING AT
ABOUT 0600Z TOMORROW, MAY 23RD.  THE IMAGER WILL START UP IN A
RECOVERY MODE, WHICH HAS REDUCED SECTORS SO THAT ADDITIONAL STAR
CALIBRATIONS CAN BE TAKEN. UNTIL THIS IS COMPLETE, THE IMAGERY
SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHIN NORMAL TOLERANCE.  TRANSITION TO
THE NORMAL SCHEDULE SHOULD TAKE PLACE ABOUT 1400Z TOMORROW, MAY
23RD.

Lost a planet GOES-13 has... how embarrassing... how embarrassing...

 

 

Greatest country in the world, eh?

 

Seems a micro-meteoroid struck a solar panel on the bird causing the issue.  Not much you can do about that, nothing to be embarrassed about.
