Clinch Leatherwood
These systems are absolutely your specialty and it looks like you may nail another one. Not a done deal yet but you nailed the potential certainly and models are now picking up on it. All just computer output. We need to see a sublte shift nw now in the gfs. Ruc is changing each run. Can't quite figure out what it's trying to do. Could be the coastal hiccup or a real move.

dendrite
I think people are using the term NORLUN loosely. You can have some inv troughs with storms, but NORLUNS are unique. Yeah...this. Not every inverted trough is a NORLUN. We usually see one of those distinct bands that dance around from off of the coast to the interior. Isn't the term technically supposed to be New England specific too?

MarkO
Well let's see what the GFS has in store. Does it follow the NAM? I'd guess it probably will.
weathafella
Did Scott nail 1/25/00? I cant recall. Yep. He and Brian (wxcentral). Norluns usually occur here from the midcoast to just south of portland when we have had them.....
Tropopause_Fold
Violently agree..Snowy night tomorrow into Monday Looking forward to it. 18z nam obviously looks good. Might be too robust but like the idea.
SnowLove
Ukie and RGEM swing right. Right now NAM seems like a fluke. I expect the GFS to go right as well. And I was looking forward to a snowy weekend
Clinch Leatherwood
Ruc right now is that wall of snow within radar distance but not on our heads. Will be interesting to see 21z ruc and Srefs. Uk/rgem way east.
weathafella
The thing is, the NAM may well be a signal for what we'll see at 0Z. It was that way when we were getting dampened down and this may also be the case. GFS will continue to show a miss but 0Z should be way better guidance and we should be able to (maybe not) run with it.
Damage In Tolland
OT: get your wx station online. What are you USB issues? I lost the one that I had connected to..More accurately..my wife moved some furniture around and it mysteriously disappeared. And I just never got around to ordering another one from Davis..I'm assuming I need a special one from them

I have the serial data logger, but use a regular old serial-2-usb since I have no serial ports on this comp.

Boston-winter08
Just by comparing radar echoes with the GFS 6hr frame, doesn't it appear that it's significantly lowballing precip amounts in NC?

I don't think you can use radar but you can use sfc obs. Alot of radar never makes it to the ground which the computer QPF output is giving. Compare the 6hr precip totals to the GFS 6hr map. The radar will always look more impressive.
