Cold Miser Posted May 24, 2013 Share Posted May 24, 2013 I must have missed it, but Kevin, what is the death toll around here thus far due to the devestating drought? Were there as many elderly taken to shelters as you had expected or much, much more? The strain on town water systems, region wide was undoubtedly the worst in decades, but I am lucky to have a well. Hopefully we make it through the end of the month without our local farmers having to truck in too much water in order to keep their livestock from getting sick and dying. Thanks. Shumlin said state officials were adding up the damage from the flash flooding to determine if it meets the $1 million threshold that could bring federal disaster assistance. Entire sections of some roads were washed out entirely, leaving chasms between tongues of crumbling pavement. The scenes were reminiscent of the destruction wrought by Tropical Storm Irene less than two years ago -- though on a smaller scale, as though the storm's fury took a laser focus on one narrow portion of Vermont.
